Hey azmonkey how are your clutches holding up? I was destroying my commet clutch on a regular basis so I had this bulit. Its rated at 300 hp. Its avalible in both left and right hand threads (honda or ecotech). *It fits the 30 by 10mm commet taper, also the same weights, spring and belt. Came with a puller.

Hi Jeff that is a sweet clutch. The only thing that bums me out about my car is I can burn a belt up in a day in the dunes. $70 bucks a pop can add up. How much does that clutch sell for, and where did you get it? I love my Tazcar, where do you ride at? I have only been out on 3 trips cause I broke my car in January off a jump, see you tube "taz car jump" That video dosent do the flight justice. I was seriously crapping pants !!
As for my belt issue Neil aligined my clutch up after the crash, he said it was way off. But after that we went out and I fried 1 belt, so I dont know maybe Ill try the clutch you have. Hows it been working for you? |

You need to run the car hard for about 10 minutes and then pull the belt off and take a look at the edges and see how it's starting to come apart.
My guess is that if you slapped the rear end really hard at some point, that it may be bent slightly. *That knocks the input shaft of the tranny and the output shaft of the engine out of alignment and you eat belts quickly. *Been there, done that too many times. I saw your car after the crash - glad to hear that ATV got it back together for you. *They're sweet machines.

Azmonkey, If your waisting a belt a day something is off. We destroyed lots of belts and tried lots of things and I think we got it figured out.
1: Alignment must be perfect, get a alignmnet bar and check it yourself. http://www.hiperf.com/ (look for a tss-04 alignment bar) 2: Clutch bushings and clutch face wear. As soon as the bushings wear out or if you wear a grove in your clutch face belts are going break. When those go out it changes the angle the clutch grabs the belt and gets both the clutch and belt hot. I was wearing the bushings out of my commet in one weekend! 3: Dont wait for your belt to break to change it. I keep three belts in my wing and rotate them during the day, that keeps any one belt from getting too hot. (a great tip from the drag snowmobile guys) 4 ont romp on a new belt, Break her in slow for the first 5 miles or so. 5:Clutch springs dont last forever. The spring in the driven clutch (back clutch) can get weak. The belt will start to slip at higher speeds and cause alot of heat to build up. Team makes that clutch and they sell a titanum spring that lasts way longer. When it comes to clutching Neil at ATV is the master, We have by far three of the highest hp taz cars made and our belts are now lasting two or three weekends thanks to him. *And with this new clutch the final weak link is handled. We need to meet up at the dunes and get this figure out. We'll be back out at Gordens next season. |
