It's close. The measurements are all fine and no tool crashes which is always good. The surface finish wasn't as fine as I would want so I am going to reprogram the finish passes with smaller steps and stepovers. I am still thinking maybe it would be best to cut it on the VMC leaving 0.010 or so on everything but the holes and bores, then you could make a finish pass with a lathe to get it just the way you want it. We'll see. If I have time I'll recut the prototype tomorrow with a finer finish. Now that I've proofed the program to make sure that there are no crashes I can crank it up and let it rip so rerunning it won't take much time.

Nope. That was just a proofing run to make sure I didn't have any mistakes or crashes. Even though programs check out OK when I verify them in CAM I have made it a habit to run them the first time on the machine at about 15% to proof a new program. Now that I am sure that I am clear I will pour the coals to it. And yes I am quite happy with the little Haas. It does everything I need.

So do you have an address I can send this 50lb chunk of steel to? Also, I am sticking with the S-10 setup after I weighed the pros and cons and the cost and labor involved so there aren't any changes to be made on what you have done. I also like the idea of leaving .001 extra on there to be final cut on a lathe

Ah profiling, the most boring job ever.

Looks good! The next one out of metal will take a little longer..... Yawn, load the part and come back in the morning......

Yeah that's one of the good things about the CNC ... load the part, hit cycle start and come back with a fresh cup of coffee in the morning to pick up the finished piece.
