I didnt like panels back then but now I think it looks better with them and I am really glad to have it when I go for long rides cause it keeps myself dry and free from the wind. It just depends on where you ride your buggy. If you just ride in sand areas there is not much need for it but around here it gets cold and muddy most of the time.
