Well, I thought I would say "hi" and introduce myself, find out what's here, ask questions, pick up as much knowlege as possible to save me some Tylenol time, and who knows...mabey give some intel.
Here goes...For the last year or so, I have been collecting information on building a mini rail for a friend in CA. (I'm in WA), and after some time of both trial and sometimes huge error, I thought, why am I trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak. I have many years in the fabrication trades but just wasn't getting the results I wanted versus the ammount of hours spent both in front of a cad program and the shop. I have seen a couple of designs that I liked (frame, suspensions, etc.) and have tried to build something having the best of all worlds...it's now sitting behind the shop with all the rest of the scrap. I settled on a frame/susp design called a Cheetah. Ordered the book (save myself some time) and have just gotten ahold of a sutable powerplant for the first build ('02 GSXR 600). If all works well, upgrades are available for the future (turbo, juice, etc.) sitting around the shop. Here's my first question, relating to the engine, and engine management system: Given the fact that it is an FI motor, obviously a computer comes into play...the doner bike was a total loss...bent frame, forks, the list goes on...for the price of $100, I bought what was left...minus computer. Where is a reputable place to start looking for one, as there aren't any bike only junkyards anywhere around, and of the one I called with my question, the reply was, "Yeah, we got a couple out back...you'll have to come and look". Now...in Seattle, with the duck type weather, "out back" was not what I wanted to hear. Not to mention, the customer service level being what it was, just told me of possible future issues if something was wrong. Any ideas? And of the other electronics...what HAS TO be there to allow the motor to start/run? Anything that is dead weight so to speak, I don't want. Thanks for allowing me in. CSR in WA |

Welcome to MBN YakFab!
PLKRacer lives in your area and you could get some inspiration and motivation from him. He's attending university in Seattle but when he's back your way on break try to get connected. Ebay is always an option for the computer. Most guys strip the harness to bare essentials. Get a manual with a wiring diagram. There are members here who have used the same engine and can help with specific wiring modifications. They wil chime in soon. Good luck and keep posting. Last edited by Gene; 01-22-2009 at 08:38 PM. Yes, I do reside around yakima when I am not at school. I "may" be home this weekend if things turn out here. If you want my phone number, send me a PM. BTW, I have a computer from an 03 GSXR 600 that may work. You are welcome to have it. I got it off ebay, and it got a crack when it was shipped. Not major, but I got a discount on it, and I have no use for it. I also have a 750 computer from an 02, that is NOT the automatic fast idle... Mine has the auto fast idle so the computer is totally different. I can also help with the wiring. From what I know, the 600 and 750 are pretty much identical.
