Default Bad pics of a big press

This is a press I built at work. It's good for about 117 ton and about 5', yes that's 5 feet of stroke. table size is 24"x 50". The rod is 4" in diameter and the cylinder moves back and forth on rollers. The whole thing is built out of scrap since I worked at a metal recycler. They wouldn't buy a nice solid press, so I built one.
sorry for the fuzzy pics, I really need to get a better camera.

Cans and pennies. Does a great job. I am building a smaller press for myself now.

Question Re: Bad pics of a big press

Will it smash atoms and generate nuclear energy?

Thats one awsome press Did I say Awsome? I have been looking for a 50 ton to do single cylinder cranks for months. The prices are really high unless you go C#&n* junk. See I can even type it lol.

Wow! Are you sure it's only good for 117 tons? We have a 100 ton that doesn't have near that big of cylinder. Works great when something is froze solid.... If you have the kohonus to stand there while it works. (Nice shield)

The hop baler at work has a 4 inch ram, and 14 foot stroke, yikes! It runs on a 1500 psi continental pump, so that is about... 21 tons considering the 6 inch bore. How much pressure are you using? We've got a larger baler that has an 8 inch inside diameter too.

This cylinder was never intended for a press, it was one of two that opened the lid on our car shredder. it was damaged at one end and had to be replaced, so being a welder I just cut the butt end off and shortened it. We figured it was only good for 3000psi. We could not confirm this, so the relief is currently set at 1800psi. It has bent everything we put in it so far without any hesitation. The yellow cap on the rod is just held on with a set screw and I made several attachments for it. One of them breaks the bead on skid loader tires. I didn't even bother letting the air out first. Just stick the tire in the press and hit the button. It does have a pendent, so you can stand where ever you feel is the most safe.

That shield is the first thing I got to build with my bender. It's got eight bends in one piece of tube and came out within a 1/4" of how I wanted it on the first try. I figured it was a good way to get familiar with the bender while getting paid. Plus I really wanted a clean looking guard. It has a truck latch that holds it shut.
