JD2 is good. But their customer service leaves something to be desired. Same with trick tools. When I bought my bender JD2 took quite a while to get it too me. When I bought my 1.25" die they sent me a 1.5" die marked 1.25"". Because I ordered through trick tools I called them about the problem. They assured me they would take care of it. Two weeks later I call & they tell me sorry "looks like we dropped the ball" .........."we'll get it right out to you". Im still waiting. This sucks if you are building your own buggy. Its unacceptable when you have customers wanting product.

I'm designing a tube bender that i'm gonna sell as a kit which includes the plasma cut parts needed and instructions to complete the bender with the rest of the materials you get. *I got the prototype parts from the plasma cutter a few days ago and will build the first one to replace my current builder. *I figured since I was prototyping all the parts and would have them in the computer, might as well sell them to people. *It will be a decent priced kit, cpable of a 120 degree bend which will accept different size dies, but I don't know how soon your needing a bender, and i'm still designing this one. *My first one has worked for almost 4 years and looks like ass, so I basically redesigned it to look better with some cool plasma cut parts....

I didnt mean to hijack the thread, sorry. The JD2 is a very good bender, I think pro tools makes a copy of it for a little less $$ and looks to be a good quality but Ive never seen or used one. I use a Haussefeld hyd. bender at work but its doesnt fall into the cheap catagorie. |

I am building this bender for myself, and will take *a lot of pics and make very detailed notes with color digital pictures to go with the plans. *My plans will be for a full stand up model like my current setup, and will be setup for an air over hydraulic which is amazingly fast to use. *You could prob. use a bottle jack in there just fine, but I just bought a second air over hydraulic jack from harbor freight and just like 4 years ago, it is only $69.95 and works great. I don't use a degree wheel, I use a digital protractor on the top of the unit, but you can use a cheaper one (pictured to the left) only the one I have is 2 degrees off, so get a good one if you don't wanna fork out the $100.00 for a digital one. To keep shipping down, I will just sell the plasma cut parts to people and the plans, I will also throw in a degree setup I designed to attach to the back of the tube in the bender. *You stick an angle finder on it and you can figure out how far to turn the tube left or right for tubes with multiple bends. *I use this on about 4 tubes on my rail and they all come out the exact same. *It also works good if your making a bend on both sides of the tube and want to make sure they are on the same plane. *Just set the degree clamp in the middle of the tube, get it level, bend the first side, flip it, rotate the tube until it's level again, then bend. After you get the kit, you buy your own bottle jack, order the dies from pro tools, and get some 2x2 square tubing and the plans will tell you how long to cut everything, and where they go in the plans. Here are some pics of the first one, I will be building my bender wit these parts, but will make a couple minor changes to the next batch. *I also have some gusseting and cross plates coming from the plasma cutter, I just design it as I go and then measure stuff to order other parts. I set the top parts against a full size battery to give an idea of the size....... |
