I'll add to K-fabs list,
Dont stand in the line of fire!
In other words,If theres any chance anything can come out of the lathe ,dont be standing there to block it with your body,stand off to the side.

Thanks for the safety tips guys! Just looking at this thing I can tell it begs to tear my arm off. LOL.

I consider myself fairly safety conscious. I am the type of guy who puts a full face motorcycle helmet on and safety glasses on underneath when running an angle grinder.

I will add a bit more safety tips to the list...

Do NOT grab the long stringy chips with your fingers no matter how cool or innocent they look. Go to Harbor Freight and pick up a long reach needle nose pliers for $5 to yank those chips away from the chuck. I cannot tell you how many people--experienced people--grab the chips and think it is ok.

Nice score on the lathe. Wish it was in my garage.
