Default Anyone here have/use a Miller CST400?? Tig/arc machine?

I found a welder I might be looking at. I have a MIG but its smaller and I would like a TIG and this one might be able to be had by me.

It's a tig/arc rig and the model is a cst400

here is a site for the welder owners manual
http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o208474c_mil.pdf

Anyone here know of or use one of these? Good/crap/what?

It is both single and 3 phase so as long as you have 230v service in single phase you are good to go. Nice welder.

How much?

He claims it was $4000.00 new. He is asking $2000.00 cash Or trades. I Have a quad he may be interested in.

This welder has bot the ARC leads and the TIG torch. I am not sure if he has the gas part for the tig torch though. I will ask him.

This is not a Syncro (I do not think. In fact I am pretty sure) and I am not sure if I really want it if the Syncro would be that much better.

I am starting to think this is a nice welder but really for bigger things. I would rather have a smaller welder thats more for the lighter tube I work with.

nutz i read a little more in the pdf file you put on here sounds like s great welder
a little bigger is better esp if you might want to try welding alum
you will want a foot pedal if he has one thats the best with tig
its better to have more welder than not enough

I agree more is better usually for a welder. The case aint huge. I am not sure of its output total capabilites. Its likely more than I will need for a Buggy! Thats my big worry! lol

I have used a foot pedal TIG before quite a bit and liked it. I DO want to try a finger trigger type though at least once.

i have never tryied one of those i will have to check it out
that would be great for final welding i mig tac weld then tig and on mild steel i use stainless filler like 304 it makes your welds much prettier and gives them a little more flex mild steel is so dirty to tig without it
