Wow! That must be one potent smallblock. Looks like your wreck was worse than mine! I got lucky, it flipped didn't hit either side, landed on the roof and slid from before the eigth all the way past the end of the quarter, and never hit the guardrail. It did grind about halfway through the main hoop and eyebrow bar though.
![]() I started crewing for a buddy running comp eliminator with an A/altered (Mustang with a 706ci Hemi). That keeps my bug at bay, and money in my pocket. I see him fork over $500 to get into National Events, not to mention the Fuel for the truck, and that is before we even think about the car. Bracket racing is much more realistic. Don't forget new belts, a new helmet, re-up the chassis, new valvesprings, and a bunch of other stuff I am sure the tech guys will bitch about when you go back. ![]() |

There is no travel difference - but there is angular deflection difference. You can get the same amount of travel out of either unit, but it would depend on the length of the axles. You'd have to have a longer axle w/the type IV (944) CVs to achieve the same travel with a 930.
I realize this is a bit of semantics over terms, but travel and angular deflection are quite different. Angular deflection leads to travel (or lack of if you're playing with type I) Angular deflection available - this is measured from the axle being perpendicular to the faces of the cv (where they'd bolt into the flange) to maxed out (say full droop position of the axle) This would become a trig problem if you want to get into the math of it. - I'd be happy to help too. Type 1 is 12 degrees Type 2 is 17 degrees Type 4 is 22 degrees 930 is 25 degrees

The car flipped and rolled over 900 feet in the old drainage ditch on the south side of Tulsa track.I was able to use the entire chassis back after the crash (after replacing ALL of the suspension) That car is still running still and passes NHRA tech with ease.Nothing other than updated safety equip has ever been needed. I built both cars entirely from a pile of tubing. The doorslammer was built in 1985,wrecked in 1986. and resurrected for the end of 1986 season.I finished 4th in points at Ark city that year. I REALLY know what you mean about more money in the pocket though. To be able to afford the habit I had to start a complete automotive machine shop to do all my engine work and do after hours work.I was putting in 14+ hours a day for over 10 years .I did all my own haed development on the SF600. GAWD,I'd be in heaven with what's available now in flowbenches. Oh well, enough about me.Tell me more about your car.

BTW I HATE bracket racing! Effin breakout rule. That's why I finally quit.Got tired of losing by .001 of a second under against someone that couldn't hit their dial with a hammer I could scream! If they'd just change that one rule I'd hit the trail again. It should be whoever gets closest to the dial wins IMO.

We are Duneing Xcalibur, but having fun along the way... Does that King K-member piece have a diff or anything in the middle? I would assume not with a brake on only the right side. What is the distance from CV flange to CV flange?
BTW Xcalibur did you take the picture of that King car? I am trying to figure out if its flyin off a giant step up or what..... Masterfabr, Sounds like you have done some serious drag racing! I know what you mean about the breakout rule. Losing by .001 is never fun. been there done that. The last straw for me is the crosstalk BS. Now they have to change the way the tree operates to cater to some panzy ass who wants to cross over. They even do it in Top Comp. If someone wants to cross over let him look at the other guys light. If he doesn't want to look at the other guys light then DON'T CROSSOVER. Run your own race, grow a set and learn to drive. Now you have me worked up..... Bitching about NHRA hehe. All that crap made me want to race heads up, which eventually made me not to enthused to race at all. Give me a sport where I can go run when I want to run. |
