Default need some ideas !!!!!

i would like to build a 2 seat long travel rail, but looking for ideas on the rear end setup, thought about a rear diff. then transverse mounting the engine and running a drive shaft to it ?? is there any pics of this being done??? also what other axles does everyone run besides the 930 cv's--- little pricey !!

If you're willing to wander around a junk yard, there are quite a few options.

Look at Porsche 944 axles and CVs. They're Type IV and will give you the most articulation next to a 930.

I also thought about mounting my engine like that and using a differential. But would that provide enough gear reduction for the final drive? I calculate you'd need something like 1:5.8 reduction (with my engine, anyway) in order for it to be reasonable. Unless you use the differential from a huge truck...even then, I've never heard of a ratio that steep. If there were such a differential, it would be far too heavy anyway. And it would be on a solid axle, not used for an a-arm setup. That's my take on it...
What is the best/simplest way to get power to the wheels?

Simplest way? Chain drive.

Best way? Through a transmission of some sort.

It might be self evident but Arrowhead did not mention his setup also gives reverse in that package. Thats as nice a bonus as one can hope for with his cost and weight penalty for it. (weight penalty VS just a simple spool. Easy to justify as he did it.)

(As a side note TO Arrowhead. You could start buying those trannies and modding them just like yours and people would buy them. The question of them standing up is already answered!)

There is a fellow who used a Subaru Diff fed by a large sled motor in a Honda Pilot Chassis and its limited slip so under power it tries to do both wheels yet he still has cutting brakes. Aside from the geardown IN the diff there are some who have fed the diffs input with a chain/sprocket setup (motor right over the diff usually for space savings) that allows them to tailor the gearing a little. Feeding the diff right off a sideways motors power shaft can make for a long chassis if thats an issue. Bill

I have two cut up and mounts welded on but I'm not a vender so I can't talk about it I will post intricate details as soon as I start replacing the rear spkt but it's late and may be here tomorrow. I think you boys will love this setup it's fairly simple and it is so nice to drive
