Re: Budget mini in three weeks.
Ok, I know I said I wasn't going to do this. I went down to the shop to work on the shotgun, but realizing my frustration was about to become destructive, I changed projects while I cooled down.
Seeing El Burro sitting in the shop every day, of course I have had time to think how to improve it. I have checked into rebuilding the engine and that won't be too bad. Yesterday, I shortened the swingarm about 10", and removed the stock shocks. I moved the mounts and put on the shocks from the donor sled that the motor came from. The suspension was so stiff that it never came close to using the 3" it had. Now the rear has about 8". And it rides about 6" higher. Of course the front needed to be leveled so I flipped the pins that the spindles go on. It raised the front about 6" so it is riding level. Now the front is too stiff compared to the rear but oh well for now. The wheels can turn much further without locking up so that is another bonus.
Last week I purchased a set of spindles, hubs, calipers and rotors from an '06 raptor; for $50 I couldn't pass 'em up. I would like to see some A-arms on here, but that is another day. I have also been checking into an FNR from a quad, and I am keeping an eye out for a deal.
I am going back to the shotgun today but I am likely to play with El Burro more in the future. This is how it sits. Sorry for the sideways pics, they came straight off my camera.
