Nope. I just mounted the motor over the diff so everything lines up. But now I have about 2' of space in front of the diff for a gas tank, cooler, dog kennel or whatever else I want to put in there. The pics I am going to take tonight should make it more clear.

Talking Re: Budget mini in three weeks.

IT'S ALIVE! Got the motor hooked up and running last night. I put everything else on hold until that was done. Not much sense in building a cage around something that won't run, right? So with that out of the way, I am feeling pretty good about my deadline, though I may have to sleep at my shop all weekend. Hope the wife is still there when I get home.

I forgot my uplink cable at home so no pics to post as of yet.

Last night was a very special moment for me. In all my 27 years, I have never built something that I could drive, but last night that all changed.

Oh yeah, it's driving! We took about 10 laps up and down the street which was a mile or so total. According to my brother, it's faster than his mule at the golf course. Which leads me to the name of my creation....El Burro!

I think my goal of finishing is well within reach. My wife has given me a hall pass for the whole weekend to finish the bracing, Strip it down, and paint it up. I will pick up my harnesses this weekend, and reassemble monday-tuesday. I am also building some wheel spacers to widen the stance a little. I am currently about $200 into this thing and after I add the belts, I will be close to my $500 goal. All in three weeks.

Sorry, still no pics.

Hey CONGRATULATIONS ! I still remember the first drive in my first build too. That's great that you have her running and working. Just wait until you go to the desert or the dunes and someone comes overe and says hey that thing is cool, where did you get it. That is when you stand really tall, inflate your chest as big as it goes and then explain that you built it from scratch. That's a pretty cool moment too. Have fun with it.

2 weeks down and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I have to be finished with this by tuesday night in order to take it camping. Yesterday was long but I got the cage finished, and added a coat of flat black for good measure. Also got the a good start on the wheel spacers. Today the motor goes back in first thing. Then the aluminum diamond plate floor; followed by the seats and belts, which I got yesterday. Then finish the spacers, and fine tune everything. And maybe mount the winch if I have time. What do y'all think?
