Nah thats the easy part.
I hardly had to weld anything just any bars that were about to be covered by another bar. Everything else is just tacked and almost no bent bars yet at all. So this was very fast. I then used my notes and just shrunk things down a bit. Well about 6 inches and 3 inches. Thats not too bad. And so I have a good idea of size and looks now. I will get one of my brothers seats and set it up just for mock up so you can get an idea of the size of it also first chance I get. I will be off this weekend to go racing with my brother at the Mint 400, if any of you are going stop by and say hi. Thanks for looking. ![]() |

Ok had a couple hours to do a little more this week.
So here is what I have been up too. As a bone stock buggy class the actual VW size and parts usually need to be used. So I cut the rear torsion out of a vw pan and installed it into the car Here ![]() The newly designed front end with raised hood section. I wanted the front to actually have a hood and nice slope up and this will also make for an actual dash. New and I think it will be cool but I will only know after the aluminum is on and how good he makes it look then I will know. ![]() and a side shot of it so you can make out how its raised up. ![]() Ok thanks for looking and my low budget race car continues. ![]() Last edited by TutTech; 06-06-2008 at 01:16 AM. |

Tut- *I've got a question. *Is this going to be a Class 9 car? The reason I ask is the front end you show in the pics is a king pin. I thought that only Ball joint front ends were allowed in Class 9. You race in MORE, perhaps MORE is different. I've been looking forward to see what you do within the confines of the stock VW suspension dimensions. Looking good as always! Can't wait to see the finished product!

No, no I am not using the link pin.
Good eye by the way. I have several link pin front ends because thats what I use. So I do not have a ball joint front end right now but using the link pin I can atleast get an idea of width, tire rubbing, front to rear wheel base etc. Ya I am waiting for my brother to bring up a good ball joint front in. Good call and your dead on. 96 inch wheel base. Total length of car tip to tip will be under 12 feet. Width to outside of tires looks to be 56 inches wide to outside of tires so far. I picked up more parts today so I will mock up seats etc. to get a feel for the cab area and what not. I met with my brother and off of photos he picked a rear cage he like so I will set that up. And the front I can do some but dont want to go to far until I have the ball joint front end. Anyways thanks again for the kind words and some feedback, Thank you. ![]() |

No my brother ended up going against it just because of cost.
Not so mucht he adjuster but if hes going to do all that then he should buy a chromoly rear houseing with adjuster and end plates. Several hundred dollars... or just stay stock and atleast get the car out there. That is a total upgrade and option and I would recommend it normally but if you new my brother anything to just get the car done and get it out there is more than he will ever get done himself. He has started atleast 24 projects and sold them half way through. So I am trying to speed things a long save cost and keep him going. I just bought this week the most current additon of the Score Rule book from Score themselves and no sorry no changes and no link pin. I even called Jim the owner of MORE and asked if we could run it and he said NO. This weekend I should have more to show as my brother is going to come up and help me do some work and come up with ideas etc. Thanks again for the great questions and I hope I have been able to help and answer them for you? ![]() |

It is really good to see a true low budget build. It will be an inspiration to a lot of folks. *I thought you might put one in the stock housing but at that point, as you said, might as well just put in an aftermarket torsion tube with adjuster. Are you going to keep the rear frame horns? With your chassis design it looks like there is plenty of room in the cab. I like the raised tube for the dash. Great work!
