Actually tut,
We Raced on a 1/4 mile dirt oval, 1/8 mile non banked dirt oval, and an 1/8 mile Ice oval...To keep entry fees down the league voted no trophies till seasons end... I say race for beer cuz 4 of the guys owned liquor stores 3 owned bars 2 were cops...Drinking came after the races...and the boys in tan would give those who were to full to drive lifts home...And were there in case anybody needed 1st aid...BTW...I'd get almost a season out of a car...The Black and purple one was a season and a half...and is still running today, just under somebody else

Now thats awesome.
Good times and good story.

Ya I do wish we had a group like that.
Very cool.

We have some really nice people that race in the desert and we are starting to find them
and hang out more and more.
Good people are out there you just have to find them thats all.

I would love to come race with you guys some time but I live a little to far away and
dont ever see myself getting anytime away from work anytime soon so thats to bad.

Well how about this.
I started my brothers car tonight.
I had some time and already had everything out so I did my basic pan as I always do.
I just took off 6 inches of width and length.
To keep within the rules.

Here is a photo of the pan, only tac welds and the 1 inch webbing is not welded in.
So nothing really set as of yet.

Nothing really to show scale but when the sides go one etc that will help.

Anyways thanks for the input and good stories.

Tut, what wall thickness do you use for the majority of your tubing?

Racing .120 wall to pass tech.
.095 for some of the small 1 inch stuff here and there but mostly .120
Thats for just about everything though so it gets heavy.

If its for fun then .095 is lighter and then you can do your smaller 1inch webbing in
.065 and save even more weight if your not racing and just building for fun.
Just use enough cross braceing it handle the thinnger materials.

I use plenty of cross braceing on my cars so I dont worry about going a little lighter
on my play cars but I have to go heavy on race cars do to them being normal steel.
Its heavy but safe and I get to weld hot and strong so I know everything is really strong.

Anyways thats what I do I sometimes mix and match if its a dual sport or what not.

Hope that helped.

And as far as this car goes it will be small, little, light weight for a desert car we should
be at 1,200 pounds... matter fact we have to weigh that much there is a weight to this class.
Smaller stock parts is going to make it look different too.
No front shock mounts on the frame they will be on the beam.
Single shock rear and small VW motor.
So everything will be smaller and what not.

Anyways should be cool.

I have really enjoyed your various builds in the past but this one has my interest, *mainly because of the stock torsion housing width. What wheel base are you going to do? Shorter than 100( Class max)? Really looking forward to this build.

Thank you thats very kind of you to take the time to let me know
you enjoy my posts. I appreciate that.

Its up to my brother he is thinking of going 96 inches same as my race car as he really
does not think the 4 inches is going to make that much of a difference so he was thinking
of going smaller to fit better and stay smaller and lighter.
So ya probably 8 foot.
Its up to him we will wait and see what he finally decides but I am 99% sure its the 8ft wheel base.

Thanks again for the kind words.
