hmmm very interesting I can not wait to see you get started on this project and see what all this changes will do to the vehicle. I know they will be great as you do outstanding work.
Always top notch and well done.

Please keep us updated and as always tons of pics really help us understand so thanks for posting those in all your topics.

Well very cool. So what do you think wheel base and size is going to be?
110" and 13.5 long? Something along those lines?

I wait and look forward to seeing your work as always.

Overall footprint is still quite the mystery to me. I can "see" the suspension, but thus far, that's about it.

I don't want to get any wider than the Dez is already. I'm not sure what that is, though - need to pull out the tape measure.

Travel - I can easily get an honest 20" w/o having issues. For the size of the car, that's probably more than enough.

I found a box of stuff that I'd made a while back today. I didn't realize just how far I'd gotten on the car before I quit working on it. I'm about 90% complete on having the front spindles (axles) and hubs done. Still need to do the spindle bodies, though.

My ACAD work's rusty - that's going to take a bit to get back in the swing of things. I also modeled up a bunch of stuff in what ever the modeling program made by the ACAD people is - need to mess with that some more too. It never ends!

I just read all 14 pages of this thread...WOW! In another life I used to work on high end hot rod stuff, pain in the ass trailer queens (...and their cars!) AMBR cars and misc magazine stuff, but your machine work is better than I'd seen in those circles. Some can make it pretty, some can make it functional, rarely both, and rarely to that extent. I hope you restart this project, a lot can be learned from the execution. From a race car, to an extreme play car! Beautiful work

Thanks for the compliments!

Don't worry - I WILL be starting on this project once the Dez is done. The only other delay (which will affect the Dez too) is that I'll be out of town next week. Once I'm back, it'll be get the Dez finished and start making a new machine.

Default 2020

The project has begun.

Spent the past couple of days getting these parts half way done.

Made 20 of them, need 16 total. I have 18 good ones, one "prototype" and one that was eaten a bit by a rouge end mill (holder came loose - ugly...)

This is the end, side and bottom half of these little gems. I'll let you guys figure out what they are. The nut in the side might give a hint...

I still need to make another set of vice jaws that hold these with the machined part facing down so I can finish the top half. I then need to put them back on a side and finish drilling the hole through them.

I also worked on finishing up my build table. It's 4' x 11', braced fairly heavily and pretty flat.

It originally had a 1/8" thick top. I had a 1/4" thick plate laser etched with a 1" grid on it and welded that over the original top.

It stiffened up the table a bunch and now has the ability to do some pretty decent measuring on. You can see the 81" tape measure that's stuck to the top. I have two 12' and two 4' sticky tape measures ordered and I'll put them down the sides or on the edges. Not sure yet...

Tonight I added the shelf under the one end and put a dozen small loops on it for tie downs and such.

The car's getting ready to start coming to life. I need to finish the machined parts in the pictures above and then start working on the rear carriers and the front spindles.

This is gonna get fun!

I'm probably going to head back through this thread and redo a bunch of it.

Don't use a drill on a half hole like that, it will just wander. Plunge it with an end mill...........

Should have drilled it through in the first place..........

I didn't realize that the bottom of the pocket and the center of the hole lined up as well as they did until I started drilling. I don't have a long enough end mill to plunge through anyhow.

No worries - I center drilled a spot anyhow. Once I get the part finished I'll be able to drop a drill bit right through them nice and precisely. I'm only having to drill through two .1875" thick pieces anyhow.

Suspension components. It's going to be an A-arm car front and back and these will be used to capture and adjust suspension.
