Awesome work kfab
Although nitride is not in the same league as HC. Try taking a file to the nitride, and u will see.It is cheaper however, and will probably hold up fine ![]() |

Ronny never did say exactly what the shaft process was. *I was guessing on a nitriding.
It's black/brownish and sort of shiny. I don't know coatings other than Ti-nitride is gold and makes end mills and drill bits last longer, chrome is shiny and I don't like it and anodizing makes aluminum pretty. * ![]()

Well, since it's probably going to have carbon fiber bodywork, the black theme may just happen.
I have a roll of c/f that's about 60' long and 8' wide, so I believe I have enough material to do the panels and such - and the guy that works in the building I'm in does molding and such. *He's already talked about doing c/f body panels...

Almost finished!
Just need to tap the five holes for the hub caps and finish the hub caps. The hub spins very smoothly and there's absolutely no play in the system. Rotor's centered just right in the caliper too. Probably won't get to finish them until I get back from the Baja 500 & Phoenix, though. I'll have the two Dez's in Ohio when I get back, so they'll end up getting attention and the Super Buggy's probably getting put aside for a while. *I need to get the race car done - I WANNA DRIVE IT!!! Navigating in the Trophy Truck's a blast and I enjoy the hell out of it, but man, I miss having the steering wheel in my paws.

Wow, this thread's almost two and a half years old. Man, lots has changed since then.
The short course racing's just too much and I want to concentrate on some other things instead. The Briggs cars came along, I broke my leg, I broke the 10Dez, I healed, the 10Dez is almost healed - just all sorts of stuff. So here I am, two and a half years later still working away on this project. The past year or so the idea of the single seater race car's gone away and instead of making a racer, I'm going to build a pre-runner. Street legal (at least enough to get an AZ plate), but fully off road capable. The general layout and build of the car is still the same. There will be some changes, though. Ecotec powered instead of Honda. I'm considering bumping up the HP a bit - 250 or so would be fun. The Eco's are easy to get more hp out of w/o sacrificing any durability or reliability. I'll be doing boxed lower arms instead of tube arms. Not sure if bdk know's he's designing more stuff or not... I may look into doing billet upper arms - not sure. The entire suspension will be set up first - all in jigs and then the chassis will be built to it. The 10Dez (now a class 3000 car, no longer a 10 car) is almost done. I have just a couple of days worth of work left. I'm waiting on parts, though. (of course.) I've modified my front spindle body design, I've rethought the rear carriers (now will have outboard brakes - I think. Since the rear end will be double a-arm, I'll be able to knock my axle plunge down to nothing so I may stick with the non-plunging CVs that I was using in the old 10Dez's drive train. They articulate something like 40 degrees - so I could stick with inboard brakes, move the tranny up a bit so that the discs don't have clearance issues and not go outboard. Not sure yet. By the time this machine's done, I'm guessing that it will probably be somewhere around two to two and a half feet longer than the 10Dez. I want to open a couple aspects of the chassis up a tad - drop the engine a bit in the chassis, move it back from the main cross brace about 4", change where the tranny sits in relation to the engine and make the drive train sit a bit lower in the chassis too. - tranny may actually sit almost on it's side. This will be a fun one!
