Hi everybody! Started working on a new project a while ago and thought I would share it's progress with you.
Design: What started all this was working on a Sand Bullet car, it was all sorts of fun to drive but needed a few changes to better suit what I would want to do with the car. This is going to be a larger car mainly for pre-running in Baja. Chain drive: In order to get the proper gear ratio you have to have a very large sproket or run a jack shaft. Both have serious draw backs. Motor: Busas make great power but I was a little concernd about tranny strengh and durability. Also no reverse sucks. So know we need a motor with reverse and shaft drive with a pretty beefy tranny...................... Honda Goldwing............ This will be mated to a Speedway enginerring mini stock quickchange rear end flanged out for 930 CV's.http://www.1speedway.com/irs_quickchange.htm these are some pictures of the frame drawings. These were just done quickly in 2D to help with part location and geometry. I have most of the parts completed for this and will take more pics as it progresses. This probibly won't be as well documented as some but I'll try. |

I heard and read the Goldwing comes with an electric reverse, as in only adequate to back the 350kg bike away from the curb, are you sure it can be considered a real reverse on a buggy?
I know some other peeps scrapped the idea of using that engine because the reverse is not really usable in a buggy, I don't know if this applies to all model years? Drawings look good, looking forward to seeing your progress. |

I'm 99.9 percent sure the goldwing uses the starter for reverse, fine for the single wheel of a bike for about 5 feet, prob. not gonna work for a sandrail. I was using a chrysler gear reduction starter with a 14 inch diameter flywheel on my single seater and even that was a bit high geared for my taste. Good luck though....

GL1800 uses the starter motor for the reverse. Seeing that these beast wiegh 850# to start out with and I'm going to have a 26% lower overall gear ratio than stock, it should move nicely.

I'm also thinking of keeping the cruise control. |
