I've been pretty happy with my axels but I found a guy that's gonna custom build them for me with u-joints instead of the cv's. I've been getting the pesky clicking for along time which means i'm running these things on the edge. 930's are only good to 29 degrees and the u-joints im getting will take that around 42 degrees and the best part,...no more greasing! I'll be selling these shafts also and cheaper than extreme, same setup. I make my money building the cars, I cut people deals on the parts for them.

Gene,..your having problems with the transworks diff? Is it design error or just abuse, I haven't had one get and settled on their design after much debate, I don't wanna go that route if it's gonna be braking on my customers............Yoshi

Default Transworks not installed yet

Yoshi,

I'm Vancouver Wahington and am in the process of installing the mini-diff along with a slew of other upgrades so that it will steer, stop, not break the frame, etc.

My drive-line problems are both chain alignment and CV related and are part of an overall issue with owning "car no. 2". It's a story of woe. I commend you for planning to drive each car aggressively before delivery instead of delivering an unknown quantity.

One reason I mentioned drive line angles is that I just received my Mini-diff this week and have been working through the imagineering installation phase focused on reliability. No clicking and no greasing.

Xqwzits build appears to have extreme angles, at or beyond the limits of CV, which he confirmed as 29 degrees. Seeing X's build pictures lets me see into my future and X's plan to install axles set for extreme angles is good planning.

Drive line angles play a big role in relaibility as does suspension design, mounting, gusseting, etc. To that end I've been thinking of installing mine with the drive line lower than Xqwzit's build. Reduced angles and lower center of gravity to reduce chances of another barrel roll.

I posted a picture of my car to this forum and described a few things I'm doing to it. Looks like I need to follow Xqwzit's lead and investigate various drive axle providers, since Extreme Fab axles come at a premium price.

Yoshi, you mentioned your new U-joint set up and, as part of my drive axle selection please ballpark a price for me.

Xqwzit, I have the spreadsheet at work and will upload it next Monday for you and anyone else who is interested. Eric at Transworks gave it to me and I modified it for additional analysis.

I'll post pics of my "make the car right the second time" rebuild as I go along. At this moment I'm cutting, grinding, getting tubing bent, have the motor at Heads-UP Performance for the same mods as the Sand Bullet car in the latest Sand Sports. I'm aslo having Scott do a few other items like larger diameter billet output shaft, clutch actuation reinforcement, 1397 kit, cam(s), etc.

My plan is to have it running by March. Thrash until May then take it all apart for new paint. Then it's the Oregon coast (Horsfall at Coos Bay June 20-24) St. Anthony over July 4th, etc., interspersed with more coastal visits.

When the car is ill my son and I ride Banshees. That is the level of reliability I plan to attain for the car.

Default spread sheet

Gene
I would love to see that spread sheet. Any way you can post it to the site for all to enjoy. My car is the short car with 5 link suspension(hotwheels toy) I also am doing a reverse diff conversion but oppted to use the short style diff purchased from the distributor so that I would have a high -low and the ability to add a alternator like the jumunji car on shorts site. Should have the car back together in January. We need to meet up in orgeon as I will be at winchestor bay during that period in June, would also like to talk shop sometime as I live in Auburn Wa.

PS very nice looking car you have

Default The Spreadsheet

Devlin,
Thanks for the compliment on the car. I will post the spreadsheet Monday once I snatch it from work email. June at the dunes sounds good and shop talk is always welcome. Does this system have a personal message feature so we can exchange email without the spammers snarfing onto it?

Default SW Bill's question

Xqwzit is in Glamis at the moment so I went and measured the mini diff I'm going to install in my car, posted elsewhere. Width from disc to inboard disc is about 10.5 inches. The case is about 14 inches long and the input shaft adds another 2.5 inches. It is about 11 inches tall. Weighs between 70 and 80 pounds.
The mini diff is interesting and seems like intelligent design. Go to www.transworks.biz to see an install on an older Sand Bullet with 300 HP. the owner apparently has a 550 HP motor in the works so the mini diff could get quite a test.
