Hello, I've been reading here for a bit and decided I'd post my project. A little background- My day job- designing turbocharging accessories including a complete line of unique wastegates
Which is an excuse to feed my habit of various projects. We do all of our own machining, fabrication, etc. In my years of accumulation of equipment I've also acquired my own 4x8 CNC plasma torch machine which is hugely responsible for the creation of this project. That and my self designed hydro. bender with inhouse dies.... Blah Blah blah on to the topic at hand Here it is so far- Using a Toyota 1MZ-FE V6 transverse mounted on a 5spd trans. The engine is offset to one side to move the diff into the middle for longer axle travel. Engine is on pass. side and its only about 350lbs, counterbalance will be the gas tank, battery, radiator, transmission, and the driver. Adapting 930 CVs for the inboards with FWD joints on the outboards for now. Front hubs are my design with forks and a king pin spindle. Ford probe rear hubs on A arms, Ford probe rear rotor/spindles on the front. All 1.5" x .120 wall DOM construction (for the most part). All nylon bushings, only heim joints are the tie rods. 22" front travel, not sure on the rear yet. Just got the wheel base setup today, engine is out. Time to box-in and tie everything together.Last edited by JGSturbo; 11-14-2009 at 03:31 AM. |

Coos Bay, OR... right in the heart of the oregon coast dunes.
Use for the car? tool around the local spots with family and friends. Its my first sand toy so I have alot of learning to do but I have a few more tools than the average joe including a full 1500HP MD1100 chassis dyno. This is really the get my feet wet build, I refuse to buy a 4 wheeler and refuse to buy anything I can build. Buiild ing this will give me a good foundation for the next one- a single seat mini with waaay to much power. |

Looks like you have good design skills and will produce a good first car. You will get plenty of comments and suggestions, espcially ideas about safety.
On that note have you modeled the seats in the car and do you know the level of the side rail compared to your shoulder? It seems low. |

Suggestions are always welcome (so long as its doesn't turn into a bash fest).
I really wanted fairly easy in/out, SxS like. I forgot to turn on the seat layer. Untitled Document for the complete log. |

Also if you look at the harness bar (horizontal cross behind the seats) that will be at or slightly below shoulder level. I've been M/L following what I've learned in building NHRA legal drag racing roll bars as far as the cage is concerned. The model (like the car) is a work in progress.
