I have a dune buggy that is basically the size of a honda odysey, however you spell it. i am dropping a 99 cbr 919 engine into and am basically just going off blueprints in my head. SO, with that said, any advise is good advise in my mind. What sized sprockets should i use in front and rear, stock is 16/43, where can i find a really cost effective off-road suspension, anything, im excepting all advise, thanks

If you have not cut the frame up any the best thing you can do is sell it to a person who values it for the frames stock configuration to fix or replace thiers and buy one of these at the least
prosandminirailframes There is simply NO WAY any odessey frame can dela with or be safe with a motor such as you mentioned. A frame from the above website will be FAR better and easier to put a suspension on it capable of dealing with real power. If the frmae you have is not tore up you may be able to sell it for enough to buy the Girard frame. Welcome to the site by the way!

I run a very similar set up. My frame is 1in wider, and 3 inches longer then a stock pilot. I have to run the stock sprockets to keep the wheel base short. I have a VERY short chain. If you can get a 60T sprocket in the rear, do it. But you'll find that the stock gearing is plenty fine in a buggy that small and light. Its easier to gear it up and down with tire changes. I've run 22' hole shots, all the way to 26 paddles.

Welcome to MBN!
The answer - as you are bginning to learn is - it depends! More information for us is better help for you. Pictures help us along with basic data like wheelbase, track, tire size, existing sprocket size etc. Need to know what kind of riding you do because that helps us make recommendations about tire size, etc. |

NUTZ4SAND, those frames you have look sick, but this being the first ever attempt at something like this we are starting small, trying to keep the cost down, but im sure this will only wet our pallets and on the next one, i just may pick one up. i will get some pics loaded soon but am 2 day new to this site so the pics may take some time to figure out

Gene, thanks, i didnt really know what to expect with "a forum" but i will start taking pics and getting dimensions, i can tell you that my brothers and i are in on this and we want it to wheelie at the dunes basically on command BUT friendly enough that we can put the wives in it, tell them to putt around and them have fun also. so mainly we will be riding sand but also occasionally dirt/gravel

Most of these mid engine mini cars will not wheelie on demand because of power and weight distribution. My cars can carry a wheelie if timed right going over a lip. Bigger horsepower and azz heavy makes for wheelie on demand.
Turbo too . . . but may require finesse. |
