Default Waitin' on parts

Well, The Rage Pilot is on hold untill I can get some parts in. Sooo, I decited to do some fab work and testing on the FL800.

I did some clutch work trying to get more belt life. What I found is with the engine mounted in rubber and the gas tank mounted in rubber, I was getting too much flex out of the mag side engine mounts and the clutches getting out of alignment under load. I do have a torque brace on the PTO side but the mag side is flexing forward. I'm trying to find a good place to put a torque brace infront on the mag side. Some of my Sno-go guys think I should use an aluminum rod with heim joints, I'm not sold yet on that idea, think there's too much vibration in that setup and I'll break something..

So what I've done is redrill the motor mounts and shift the motor out of aligment by an 1/8" (measured at the outside of the clutch) so when under load, shifted out with belt speed at it's fastest it will pull it in. I chose 1/8" by the un-scientific method of taking off the secondary clutch shims so the clutch will float, putting on a small piece of hose on either side of the clutch and allow it to push the hose one way or the other. It worked but what a mess! I found out the RPM trans does not like a floating clutch. But with the clutch free to move on the input shaft I could see a noticable increase in top speed, and hp to the ground. Short vid Top speed right at 70 mph.

Also I'm still fighting the Axle grinding problem, so I had the end of the axle machined and tapped so I can attach some UHMW to the end of it. Keeping my fingers crossed.

While I had the engine out, I also made some mods to the frame, Made it so both clutches come off with out engine removal, clearanced some tight spots.

How much are you letting it float, my drack floats about 1/4 or just under, and seems fine...I lubed the shaft up with some anti-seize prior to installing it tho...

Bugpac,

The RPM trans has a seal ring on the input shaft that pushes on a interanl O-ring that seals the trans. When I took off the clutch alignment spacers that seal ring came out and slung oil all over everything, made a real mess with the sand and all.

On my eariler Polaris sno-goes they had a 1/4 inch float from the factory, and your right just kept the shaft anti-sezied/greased well.

This weekend I hope to have the Pilot together and do some more testing.
