Just bought a pilot not too long ago and have had concerns about the low idle sound and the slow throttle response, when i hit the throttle, i need to go almost 1/4 the way to start it moving, and its a large pull, enough to take the wheels a few inches off the ground by itself. The idle goes like this...lol; vrroom (1/2sec) vrroom (1/2sec) and so on. I notice the clutch says powerbloc, but not sure if its the stock cluthc. if you all need pictures I'll be glad to give em

The clutch is set with a high engagement which is why it has to rev up high before moving. That is not the stock clutch.
A low idle and slow throttle response may be due to being rich on slow/pilot jet. Is it the stock round slide carb or has it been replaced? |

The powerbloc clutch is very adjustable.You can change the characteristics by using different spring/weight combinations.Try adding some weight to the "spacers" between the drive pulley sheaves.More weight will make engagement occur earlier.Play with the weight till you like it.Then if you don't like it find some different rate spring to use on the rear pulley and start the process over.

BTW the "spacers" in the drive pulley have a little screw in plug on them that allows you to add weight shims to them.If you don't have spares make your own.Remember small changes in weight can make big changes in how it behaves.Add/remove weight shims one at a time from each and be sure each has the same weight in them. Remove the center bolt that secures the outer sheave half , pull the spacers out,add weight,replace. It's that simple.

Dont mess with the driven clutch, the whole idea of the cvt is to keep constant squeeze pressure on the belt......If the engagement is to high then yes adjust the drive clutch, the driven has no effect on engagement, the spring in the driven will make it shift etc, the goal is to get the rpms to a certain number, say 6500, and they stay there without fluctuating all the way to top speed..there is numerous factors in the cvt, and you cant just guess at what to fix as fabber has explained so well...
*I am with livewire, sounds like you are running dirty at the low end....My car does exactly the same thing....I was told by another pilot odyssey guy to tell you to junk the power block and put a 102c on it instead, youll be far happier... |

Bug, the driven may need a different spring but not likely unless the HP has been upped substantially.I have had a fair amount of experience with a powerbloc many years ago.There are better units to be had but at the time they were great and easy to adjust and the only thing available.

Bug, the driven may need a different spring but not likely unless the HP has been upped substantially.Yes, you will not alter engagement speed but you do change the "upshift" characteristics when you change the driven spring.

Thnaks for the tips you guys, im going to get a new clutch puller and try out the weights, I have like 6 more shims... i think.
Livewire; Yeah its still the roundslide carb, the plug has a golder rim, and a slightly darker tan tip. |

You don't need a puller to change the shims.Only the outer cover comes off to change the shims.DO NOT remove the entire unit.When you remove the center bolt the cover will come off in your hand without a puller..
