I have done the crankcase test on my engine, but not his Pilot yet. I did mine by washing down the engine as much as I could, spraying the magneto with a cleaner, then putting down baby powder around any place there could possibly be a leak. In about 10minutes of running the engine I saw no fluid attach to the baby powder.
Thats the way i've done it. Could be another way im guessing. |

Thanks Nutz (hehehe...err sorry) I guess I have another thing to print and place into the manual. I did mine according to a motocross 2-stroke preformance manual that was released in 96. Looking at it right now, it gives the visual test (one i explained above) and the PSI test (one you explained). I'll go out and do the PSI test on my engine this week. I havent had any loss of compression since it was rebuilt, but better safe then sorry right?

Better safe than sorry is right but its your money and you can do whatcha want with it. I have never heard of the test with the baby powder but I do not see how you can see whats going on in behind the flywheel with it?
The pressure test may not point straight to the problem but it will tell you there is one. Bill
