Exactly where I was going to say.....APP does quality work at a great price.

Well I know a 18t 530 fits but I don't know if a 18t 630 fits. Stock is 17t 530. I am going to be running 1:1 on the sprockets so I am gonna stick in the biggest one that will fit to try to cut down on the heat. I also have the chain length as long as possible in the design. I know some people here are using 630 stuff on busa powered cars. The thing is, Krause has a 530 chain that is higher tensile strength than any 630 chain I can find. I have read here that there is still stretching and chasing the tensioner issues with even that chain and seemed to be cured with a lower tensile 630 chain? I would really like to know how...

If your going to convert from 530 to 630 you need to use the o.d. of the sprockets not the teeth count.....
And I am one of the guys who converted from a 530 to 630. I use a RK SO630 (10600 psi strength I think) chain on mine with out a tensioner. I basically set it up so the chain is pre-tensioned and adjusted as it sits in the frame. And I can say now after a full year of use the chain has not stretched more then a mm or 2. And IMO could still run another season on the chain which I probably will, just to see how long it will run. ![]()

Also are you using a o-ring/x-ring chain.....I know for a fact that the NON o-ring/x-ring chains DO NOT last in the sand. That goes for both the 530 and 630 chains.

I am not using anything yet. I am just getting started on the build this weekend. Just trying to plan it out in advance.
So a krause chain has a TS of 15,000. A o-ring 630 is 11,000. What makes it better? or is it better? Has anyone had failure on the krause chains here? |

Bug has. He didn;t have very good luck with his first car. I'm using an r/k 530 on mine and it barely stretched after an hour of running. Need to move the tensioner back 1/8 inch.

Forgot to mention, but a smaller sprocket also puts more tension on the chain. Say you have 100 ft lbs at the outut shaft in gear X. If you use a 1 foot diameter sprocket, unrealistic, but just for this purpose, you have 100 lbs of pull on the chain. Now say you get a 3 inch sprocket. This tension jumps up to 400 lbs. Bigger sprockets means you can, theoretically, use a weaker chain, and vise versa.
