How about a Kaw Ninja 750 or a GSXR 750 I see a couple of those on my local CL for sale? Both engines are newer fuelie models. I want to power a 2 seater something similar to a Ridge Runner with similar use in mind. I am not building a race buggy.

Why do more people not use snowmobile engines? I think I am missing something because the sled engines are very powerful and cheap.

Does the busa make around 100tq with around 170hp?
Does the gsxr make only 55tq?

I found those numbers on the net, but they seemed low.

The Artic Cat F7 has like 100tq and 150hp and I know you can get those fairly easy and cheaper. I wonder what the tcat has. Can somebody explain for me.

My reasons

I like to shift, be able to have a clutch makes everything more fun.

Other then that I dunno.

Like Josh said his reason is preferance.

4 stroke bike motors are easier to use usually as four stroke pipes are easier to do that two stroke especially in a confined mini-rail. Plus on a bike motor you can simply run off the chain to a spool rear end. Sled motors you NEED to mount a jackshaft for the driven clutch and then you have to run off the jackshaft to a gearbox or spool or? Its a bit more to do this usually.

If you got a nice gearbox then either is about the same to connect power to. Just gotta deal with those two stroke pipes still.

Fuel is another thing. A typical two stroke sled motor unit will use twice the fuel of a four stroke shifter of the same genral size motor. Running out of fuel out there bites.

As four stroke sleds become easier to find its a good bet more will use them.

Hopefully a really great really cheap gearbox will come along that make it a simpler choice. (I gotta go now. See if the local scrap yards got any new Hondas in.... See Arrowheads buggy for the inside line on this)
