K&N wrapped in a Uni foam, wrapped in an outerwear.

Oil the K&N and Uni, not the outerwear.

Yet another point we disagree on. Leave the oiled guaze dirt magnents for the street. I have seen more motors killed by K&N's than anything else. Get a canister filter with a paper element.

These can be had at most equipment supply places for relatively cheap and will work 100 times better.

You know, I actually can't disagree with you. I'm such an old habit, that I'm stuck in the past.

Interestingly enough, when I did the RX1 engine in the first Dez, I ran a Ford E-series paper filter. It worked beautifully.

I need to get my head out of the past, huh.

Oh 10Dez, you're getting something new....

I assume that would require the use of the original airbox, or a custom made air box?

I have a Uni for each carb. Since the bike engines are set up to pull air from the front I found the intake noise right by my ear to be very unpleasant. Hence the removal of the airbox.

Oh yeah, forgot to ask. How did the K&N kill the engine? Did it fail and let in a bunch of dirt and sand?

I will agree that the stock unit will filter better then a K & N but wont flow nearly as much.....so theres a trade off.

Before I tell you how I did mine I need to be clear that I drive in the sand and some minorly dusty areas.....

I orginally had just a k & n until I took the fiter off one day for cleaning and noticed a small amout of debris and sand in the air box. I looked closely at the filter and saw that the filter was packed full of sand and dirt. The dirt and sand got there because the air filter is out in the open and kind of in the path of the flying dirt and sand. So what I did was made a prefilter out of a piece of UNI pre filter(un-oiled)for the K & N that kind of blocks and deflects the majority of the sand. I have been running it this was for a while now and dont have any build up on the filter and the inside of the box is still debris free.

There's a couple threads here that go into this subject pretty thoroughly. Worth a read. The paper is best IMO.With a prefilter that is similar to what busasndrail has done..
