I have always felt that one or two LARGE truck filters stacked on each other AROUND the filters on the carb would help immensly in the fact they they would pre-filter the air and be easy to change and not restrick power enough to be a factor for playing/fun running.

Tractors run in some horrible conditions and they need to protect those $$$$ motors so they have airfilters that use centrifugal force to help purge out the bigger heavier stuff and lessens even the lighter.

I know Chenowth used one of these filters on at least one of thier SV16 rails. I saw it in Sandsports then met the owner at Glamis once. Some of these tractor filters are not that huge in size but still have a large filter area. The units use the centrifugal trick and are supposed to make filters stay a lot cleaner a lot longer. Might be worth a look if you hate air filter maint. Get it chromed if pretty is an issue for you. They are not to "in style" with most of todays buggies. But maybe they could be doctored up to look like something else. Bill

John Deere also uses a safety filter on the inside so you can blow out the outside one, and don't have to worry about dirt entering the engine. It's a good idea, and they can get pretty dirty before you notice the engine is starved for air.

The Donaldson's also come with a safety inner filter. I usually don't run them as they are not needed for off-road use and restrict the flow to much. On something that is getting serviced regularly, they aren't needed. Something that is getting driven around the clock buy employee's that don't care so much needs it.

They give the CFM rating on the Donaldson site, basically you figure out the max CFM your going to need, add about 25% and look for a filter that will do that at under 5" of vacuum.

Yeah, that's what jd and many other tractor companies run. I've only seen the inners used in the jd's though. I know of a new holland that sucked in the outer filter and destroyed the engine. Although it was due to a clogged filter, it is possible. With the inner installed, it would have suffocated the engine, not ruined it.
