Hi all,
Me and my dad are currently building two mini buggies. The chassis, suspension, and all components are as similar as possible. We previously had 2 different buggies where mine was VW power, and his was a 2.8 V6 front end clip in the rear. We eventually decided that we wanted to build as like buggies as possible so that we both enjoyed the same type of playing and were on a level playing field. The one difference with the buggies we are building is my dad has a 01 GSXR 1000, and I have a 98 Yamaha 1000. We wanted the same, but we found what we could. However, I recently found a listing for a 06 GSXR 1000 for $950. Is it worth me changing? I might get some of the money out of the Yamaha, but likely not the whole $950. (The yamaha is still in the bike so it is not any more work either way) The things that are making me interested in the GSXR is a slight power gain, a magneto instead of a alternator, and an extra gear. What I would like to know is, is there any benefit for me with part interchangeability with my Dad's rig? How similar is the wiring, spark plugs, water pump, etc? Also would the mounting on this engine be similar to my dad's? Basically, if we were to find another GSXR 1000, would they all be similar enough that parts could be swapped to keep us going when we blow something? Or are we still going to need to buy 2 sets of spare plugs, 2 different air cleaners, etc? Thanks Grant Wright |

Ya, I really should have put that. It is one of my definite considerations. I would like to get into fuel injection. That said, do people have problems with the carbs on those bike engines? I am an avid snowmobiler, and so I play jetting and such a fair bit on them. I have never found though that 4 strokes are that finicky.

Even the gixxer can run lean and rich, the fuel injection will not compensate, have to re write maps etc, I like fuely in off road because you eliminate the float bowls, Only reason IMO...

Does anybody have an opinion on the clutches on these things? Is the Suzuki better than the yammy or the other way around? Thanks Grant |

A Power commander will let you program maps, or if you run an external fuel pump, with a pressure regulator, I believe you can alter the lean/rich condition with merley fuel pressure....

Hi,
I am guessing that the motor is gone. It is listed in my local craigslist, but the guy only left an email for a contact, and he has not gotten back to me yet. But I am still hoping. Had one question about this. Does the GSXR have a built in rev limiter? Would the Yamaha have one even though it is just carburated? I would like the safety of a limiter! Grant |
