I have a Ridge runner buggy that runs the 2006 Polaris sportsman 800 Atv drive train. *I am considering swaping the the 4 stroke atv motor for a 2 stroke sled motor. *I am not set on a specific motor just yet am open to suggestion. Righ now a older Indy motor from the late 90's looks good since i can buy the whole sled for a reasonable price and will have all the parts necessary. *My question is will the driven clutch from the sled fit my transmision so i can still have reverse. *I need to find out what the diameter of the shaft the driven clutch goes on on the sled. *I have heard that polaris uses the same size shafts on all their cvt clutches. So i am tring ot figure out if the cluthces from the sled will bolt on. *any help would be greatly appreciated. *Or suggestions for whic motors are better than others.
My modified 4 stroke 800 i have now has a little over 60 horse power. I am tinking i would like to get to around the 100 horse mark and be as reliable as possible and have electric start. *I have been searching this forum and other s and will continue but havent found anything concrete yet.... thanks for your help in advance. hans |

You will most likely have to change your driven. They are smaller on a four wheeler than a sled, and they don't have as much variance in ratio as a sled clutch.

i am considering a 700. *might possibly do a 500. i dont really sont know what motor i am going to use for sure just yet. i am just doing research to try and figure it out. * Right now i have the 800 atv motor in it. i have most of the parts to do the turbo to my current motor. *BUt after doing more research on my motor it apears that the center of my crank is not supported by a bearing between sylinders. *So i when crazy horse power is added i figure doubleing my power would be considered crazy since stock is 52 and i am already deep intothe 60's now. *The turbo is supposed to put me in to the high 80's or low 90's if i am lucky. *but i am affraid for engine life at that power level. *so i am doing home work llooking into alternatives. *i figure i will have to use both clutches off the sled. *but i am hoping to retain my tranny so i still have hi lo and reverse.

Has there been any comments on how much power the stock tranny can handle? i know it's CVT but everything has its limit. I would stray away from the turbo. I'd rather try and strap a bigger, more reliable engine in than go to the hassle to tune and keep it running correctly. Hopefully opsled can chime in later this morning with something to say. I've never used anything besides the older 440's so I don't have any opinions on the newer engines, but EFI would be a huge plus.

what size shaft does the secondary (driven) have? If it is 1 inch with a key way you can use the stock polaris secondary clutch off the sled...But I'm thinking you might want to re-gear for the sled motor... my 500 Po has been ported, has tuner pipes and is in the ballpark of a hundred horse...with the new-used CDI box...old one took a dump unloading at the dunes after a thousand mile trip one way...But anyways what I was getting too is I need to keep this motor around 3000 -3500 r's it's peak is 6500 and the rev limiter is just over 7000...I dunno what that 800 4 stroke turns or where it makes it's power...

Is the 800 a v twin? Do you know how much room you have to work with, or is there a height restriction?

Have you considered a 4-stroke 750 Webber like the Revolt uses? *I think there are variants from 72-100hp and the Polaris clutches bolt right up.

it is a not a vtwin. it is a inline twin. *their are some height restrictions. i will get it out this weekend and take some rough measurements. and check the shaft size. *
the weber motor i havent been able to find any info on. so you know of a link. my stock clutch will botl on to the motor? *72 to 100hp *to the ground or at the crank. i am not much lower than that now. *the 100 would be nice.. |
