Default yamaha fz1 motor info

a lot cheaper than a busa or other sport bike motors.they have mount tabs cast into the lower front of the crankcase that makes it easier to mount.i bought a new fz1 in 2002 and still very much enjoy riding it and at 17,000 miles has had only oil changes and lots of back tires.the worst thing about these engines is the carbs being set too lean for smog.this is easy fix-get a jet kit .best jet kit is from www.ivansperformanceproducts.com.this kit takes awhile to install but its worth about 15hp .with 500 miles on the bike i hit the dyno and pulled 130 at the wheel with the jet kit for full exhaust system and a yosh slip-on *tail section only muffler.the smog ports can be plugged by threading them with a 5/16 fine thread tap and installing short bolts.the carbs come out horizontal from the back of the head insted of close to vertical like a sport bike so the airbox isbehind the motor.guys that have put open pod type filters on the carbs have lost power and created part throttle driveability problems.i would guess that the carbs need some kind of velocity stack to work correctly.supposed to be 5hp gain by porting the intake boots-they are slightly smaller than the intake ports and there is a hump inside than can be smoothed out on the bottem at 4 and 8 o'clock position.a properly designed exhaust-like on rorty's website, carb kit and some intake boot work should get 140 hp at the wheels.i am working hard to finish my buggy so i can test drive it.might be going to baja in october-nothing like test driveingl day long .
