Hey guys, hows it going? I need some help. I am getting close to ordering my RPM Box from Dan, and I was wondering what the best gear ratio would be?
Here is what Dan said: "I don't have an answer for you as far as ratio except that you should look at how the bike was geared as an easy way of estimating where you should start. In general, with tires of 27 inch diameter or larger, I would recomend a 5.5 to 1 reduction gearbox if you are going to run in a lot of sand and hills although the 4.7 will give you more top end. *See if you can find out the particulars about the engine and trans as to the primary reduction between the engine and the trans, all the gear ratios especially top gear, and the rpm limits of the engine itself". * How do I calculate that out? considering that my engine is an '86,yamaha FJ 1300cc. Where can I find the info for the gearing in my transmision? Suggestions? I would really appreciate the help. |

Thanks Rorty, good site, but I will have to buy a manual, since my engine is such a late model. I think I might have to buy a newer one anyways, we'll see.
