Anyone know if the electronic reverse engines are made in a fan cooled version...I know of the liq. cooled ones but dont know if there is a fan cooled engine?
*Have you heard of any after market retro fit for older engines?? |

Currently (and to my limited knowledge), the only electronic reversing sled engines are the new, watercooled, two strokes.
It's all an ignition setup - so maybe that could be adapted to an older engine - don't actually know. The mechanics of how it works is pretty simple - and the two strokes all work in pretty much the same fashion, so adapting might be fairly simple.

Hi Panzer,
I'm with K-fab, I also don't know of any Air-Cooled engines that reverse. The only limitation I know of is that the water pump (on the liquid cools engines) and the oil injection pump must be able to also run in reverse without damage. This was an issue on some early Polaris engines. I beleive that the fan on a fan cooled engine would stop working in reverse due to blade design, so prolonged use of a reverse rotation engine could be fatal in terms of heat.

OK.....I didnt think there was but had to ask....anyone using a Yamaha Raptor engine 660ish I think...they have reverse.....and they are 4 stroke
I think the new ones are 700cc with fuel injection....single cylinder. |

LOL....yes...knew that....wasnt sure what you meant....Yamaha also make a 500cc 4 stroke liquid cooled engine with electronic reverse....how that works Im not sure......would be nice to be able to get away without a
forward/ reverse tranny...would be much lighter and less $$$ maybe... |

The question of electronic reverse is available in fan cooled engines is yes.
With the popularity of the push button reversing two strokes engines, all manufacturers are outfitting their sleds with push button reverse, either engine wise (Rotax, Polaris) or in the transmissions (Arctic Cat). *Yamaha has no two strokes engines but has push button reverse in the chain case. Both Polaris 550 fan and Rotax 550 have electronic reverse in a fan cooled engine. Most older engines are not able to retrofit to a electronic reverse, the engine case must have embossing in place for the reversing pick-up to be placed. *You need two ignition pickups, one for forward and one for reverse.
