Default Need Help building a motorcycle powered buggy

Ok I think I am finally going to build a motorcycle powered buggy.
But wait there's more. Its actually for my work. It seems they want me to look
into and help build a motorcycle powered buggy. And if all goes well we will offer them
for sell.

Not to mention we have a potential customer that wants like 20 of them.
But we need to build our first one to even get started down the road to building
even more.

So I ask you.
Can you help me.

First off the frame will be our own design at work with a lot of our ideas from our big
cars used on this car and of course some of our look going into it. If I get to do much of
it some of my own personal cars looks will be used also.

So first questions?
Where should I buy my motors from?
I have seen a ton of links and have gone to lots of them. But still not sure.
The first car can have any motor etc. even used as it will be our RND car.
But if all goes well where can we buy 20 crate motors?
I think Hayabusa motors will be best but not sure?
But other motors could work if they are new in the crate and dont cost an arm and a leg
as these cars have to be well low priced.

The customer says its between us building them or him buying something like the Ridgeline Revolt.
So we need to build a single seat car to compete with the Ridgeline.
He does not like the look or such small size of the Revolt and wants a more buggy look and feel.
Plus a little bigger and later some dual seat cars.

Ok also for the car we will also need a rear diff.
Jeffco I hear are good and I like that.
But to keep our price low will his be to expensive?

The customer does not want a cvt and does not want to deal with belts etc.
Parts will be hard to get and cars will actually be thrown pretty much away
if they end up brakeing and tend to be to big of a problem.
And we will not end up selling them 20 if this happens.

Price needs to be under 15,000 dollars for finished cars if he buys 20 and around 18,000 if
he buys one to say 5 of them.
So I cannot go to crazy on the best of best parts.
To the customer looking into this they picture it as a go kart for their kids and nephews etc.
So cheap but not to cheap is the key.

Also we want to be able to build off this package to offer buggies of our own
with good wheel travel etc. to other customers.

For spindles etc. Protodie I know is good but what or who would you use?
We may just make our own by purchasing snouts and making our own spindles as we
do for our big cars so this may not matter to much.

We will more than likely run air shocks to keep cost down and not end up using coil springs
because they each cost more money.
Heres some other thoughts and input I will need.

Rear hubs?
Rack and pinions?
Motor?
Rear Diff?
Reverse or not?
Axels? 930 will probably be our choice.

Anyways just looking for some input because I know you guys are the best out there.
So any input on us starting out building a mini would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

ps if you have an idea or input as much info as possible would be appreciated... like if you
bought or know where to buy crate motors please include a link for me if you can.
This goes for any parts or info you have to offer.

Thanks.

dans performance parts has rack and pinions.. thats where i got mine and it is a nice unit. they arent that expensive either. they have other parts also but mostly for vw stuff... Kartech has a lot of stuff but you have to call for prices... just makes it a pain in the butt....

Not asking for much are you?LOL!!!! I may be mistaken but so far as I know you cannot buy a complete busa motor from Suzuki.I'd suggest the ZX14 Kawasaki as it is available in crate form complete. Currently the jeffco is probably the only choice or maybe the RPM .IMO either is being pushed to their limits behind a superbike motor but there are no other choices IMO. AS for the rest of the story I don't see a way to build what you describe and be in the price range you are talking.

I would talk with Yoshi, he has a hook up on new hyabusa engines out of bikes. I want to say they are cheaper than the zx14 crate engines. It sounds like you guys could build a sweet car and if you keep it under 15,000 it will put some hurt on the Revolt. As far as hubs have you ever thought about running full sized parts. If your running a duel sport why not just run some 30" tires and the 15" rims with the wide five or even go up to 31" tires. With those engine choices the buggy could handle it. If its a light car to cut down on cost try and just run a disc brake off the FNR. Then offer upgrades like 4 wheel disc brakes and coilover shocks.

I would look into using 600cc engines. *If they are going to be putting inexperienced drivers behind the wheel, a 600cc MC engine is still a handful. *I know Dan will stand behind his product at RPM so I'd suggest getting ahold of him to talk with him about it.

Engines will probably be the hardest part to find a bunch of new ones. *Even if you buy a lot of crate engines, you will need wiring harnesses and computers to contol them. *

Are these buggies going to be for duning or ?

Why not? Because of the price? As far as I know they are very durable and have held up well where ever they are used......is there something I haven't found?
