Default Typical Riding Adventure

Some will appreciate this lil story. Unfortunatly, its true.

We were supposed to meet odypilots yesterday, and test jay1823's buggy at the mounds. Unfortunatly, work, buggy issues etc all came up, and it just didn't happen. By the way SORRY DAVE!!! Hope to see you in baldwin.

At any rate...........

We finally decide were gonna head out around 1 today. I get back to the house, hook up the trailer, try to start my buggy, won't run. Pull it all apart, check plugs, etc. Get it fired up. Try to pull it on the trailer, keeps dying. Turns out, fuels off. I'm an idiot.

So now about an hour behind. I run in the house, grab my gear, run back out. Notice, trailer tires low. Great. Go fill it with air, run to jaysons house. Crawl under the trailer, find big ass nail.

He gets the plug kit out, get it pluged. Load jay up, go to the gas station, fill up the tire. Get on the road, around 330. Ok, fine. Traffic sucks. Why wouldn't it? Finally get up around auburn hills. Hear this loud weird pop, and quick hiss. Keep driving a minute, and I say, hey jay, hang out the window and check the tire.

Sure enough, spit the plug, running on the rim. Pull over, get it changed out with a spare. After rigging up a jack. Finally back on the road around 445. Sit in traffic, pair of accidents etc. Finally get to the mounds at 6:45. Now mind you, sunset is close. Kid tells us we have 30 minutes! We're like, eff it, we're going in!!!

I unload in 30 seconds, jump in, I peel out and go play in scramble 1. Jay takes a minute and comes rolling out. His newest steering seems to work well!! We play around for 5 or 6 minutes. And start heading down the wider road to the second scramble. Maybe half way, jay's buggy dies. Fuel filter snaped in half!!!!

He's just laughing now, so he tells me to go ride. I of course, am now getting too comfortable in my buggy, and ride it rather hard. Pulling hole shots, sliding it through the corner etc. Plus I LOVE splashing in the mud. So I'm out getting soaked. Litterally have water pouring out of my helmet etc. Run around for about 30 minutes, while swinging by to check on jay. Tell jay, one last run, and I'll tow ya back.

Blast down the wider road to this great soupy mud patch I'd been flying through. As soon as I enter it, I see the right wheel go horizontial!!! Never good. Stripped the threads out of the lower ball joint. So that arm digs in, I hold on. Thank god it doesn't go over. Just slides to a rest, in the middle of the shallow bog.

I get out, start hiking back. By this time, its basiclly dark. They wanted to close at 715, its now almost 8. I see the attendant helping pull jay out with a SXS they have there. Costs 10 bucks by the way for a tow. Jay knew i'd been gona a while, and figured I'd broke, or crashed.

So I jump in, we go get the truck, head out, of course its freazing cold. I'm soaked. The buggy is in mud/slime/water. Load up my dead buggy. Finally get home around 10:30!!!! So, we spent roughly 10 hours today, for 30 minutes of riding. Sad thing? We're contemplating going again this week!!!! *I just pray baldwin goes better

Dang that sucks. Are you running 4 wheeler front spindles? did it just pull out? I've had days at the dunes that I went out late that I wish I didn't go out. it just keeps getting worse. On my last ride, we went out late, but only once, and we just kind of putted around the beach and trails.

That's all just good character building stuff. You will have better days, but some of the better ones won't make as good stories.

LOL, this make.....I think 3 or 4 in a row * Yes, I believe they are blaster spindles. They way the previous owner did them, they removed the pinch bolt, welded that shut, then tapped the holes. so the ball joints thread in. Well their completly stripped now. The shaft on the joint is almost smooth, as is the spindle. Not sure what I'm going to do. Probably have to replace the spindle. I bend the ball joint really good. I forget the size off hand, but their quite large with the nylon inserts.

Can you insert a heim in the arm, and use a bolt through the heim and spindle?

I'll take a picture later. Theres no room for a nut on the other end. I'm thinking of getting another blaster spindle, and retaining the pinch bolt. I'll grab photos in the day light, and people can make suggestions

GM,
I am not sure what spindles Rob used ,,,,, didn't know he welded them shut either.
I would try to re-cut them, pinch and re-tap ,,,, and use the pinch bolts,,, or get new ones,,, ebay.
I run Suzuki 500 Quadracer spindles on the Beast ,,,, snapped a Heim last trip to Silver Lake ,,,,
nothing else was damaged. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, tom

I have warrior spindles, and they use a nut on the inside. Is there no room near the caliper?

NEVER, EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE DOES ONE SAY: "One Last Run" or "On Last Ride" or "One More Time".

That's what got ya!

The Dirt Gods listen for any form of these particular phrases and when they do hear it - well, you now know the results.

You have to be sneaky and say "I'm going out again and then I'll be done" or something along that, but NEVER "One last ___".

[smilie=blowkiss.gif]

As odd as it sounds, the group of guys I ride with won't allow someone with us to go out if we hear them say this.
It's bitten all of us one time too many. *New guys look at us like we're insane (probably because we are), but it's one thing we're all pretty set about.

No problem about not making it. I know how it goes.

I have the same philosophy! I, too, have been bit more than once after uttering those words.

Edit: I screwed up the quote thing again. Damn!
