Sled engine - two stroke 800 triple makes about 165 to 180 hp stock - they can be made to make sick amounts (for the size) with mods. *600 EFI makes about 120 or so. *800 twin - 140ish.
Two strokes are unfortunately LOUD, drink fuel, need to be re-ringed fairly often, require premix or oil injection. *Can be carbs or EFI. Sled engine - four stroke. *Killer things they are! - hard to find they be. GOBS of torque. *(all Yamaha) 500cc twin makes 80 hp, 750 cc triple makes 120, 1000 cc four cylinder makes 155ish. I went from a 1000 triple two stroke (made 185-190 hp) to a 1000 four cyl four stroke and the car is so much better it's not funny. *Not as much hp, the the torque does all the work and does it wonderfully. The car is dramatically quieter, the FI system is a kick to tune and it'll spin the tires with ease. It doesn't drink fuel like the 5 mph two smoke did... - not sure yet, but it seems to be closer to 15 mpg now. A sled engine is a ripping engine for a buggy - but you have to run a CVT setup (which is my personal favorite). CVT has the advantage of always being in the engine's powerband. *Properly tuned, they let the engine come up to peak power and then the clutches transfer the "gear ratio" on from there. *Makes for one hell of a fun ride. Motorcycle - easy to get, make good hp - select your size and you select your hp. *I'm not into bikes, so I can't give you any specific numbers other than the Busa - 186 hp. *1300cc also... Pain in the butt to shift all the time. *Always having to find the right gear... *Get out of the power band and you loose drive. I ride a motocross bike, so I'm used to shifting to keep it in the power - I just don't like to in a buggy. I've driven both types - cvt and motocycle powered cars and I'm sold on the CVT setup. *It's just so much simpler and works just as good, if not better. Hmmm - wonder why sleds don't have gears???

For an FL250 - nowhere... *That's not the chassis to put anything more than about 30 hp in...
For another chassis with suspension and a roll cage (not bar) I'd look at e-bay or one of the wrecked toy sites. *Sorry, I can't recall the name of the one that has so many... *Tried a search but don't find it.

If you can modify a chassis, you're capable of building one from scratch. |
