Default DOM tubing cost?

I just got off the phone with the local machine shop where I get most of my metal from and they said the last price they had on 1.25" x .095" DOM was $6.25 per ft. That sounds way off to me but maybe not. If this is the price then now I know why these things cost so much already built.

I thought that price sounded nuts. Maybe he was reading the wrong thing or something. My dad is checking on 4130 to see if its cheaper. That would be crazy for me to be able to get 41330 cheaper than DOM but It might happen.

Check www.chassisshop.com for prices. You would have to pay shipping but at least you would know a good ball-park number.

I bought a stick of 1.25 x .120 chromo today for 122.01. and the cost per foot was about 5.62. Yes, that is high but there are no steel mills here. Tubing prices are more expensive when you live farther from the Midwest industrial belt.

The Chassis shop lists the same material for 4.32 and then you need to add shipping.

Your local shop is charging a premium price. If you live near a major metro area you should be able to find tubing for a reasonable price but must consider shipping costs from the mill, etc.

I would think you should be able to get a better price than that here if you bought a full tube
http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cf ... its=inches

They only list up to 8' for shipping, but they do have a will call also.

That price was from CDA Metal in Spokane. I don't think there was a minimum. I am going there tomorrow to get a couple of things, so I will check for sure!
