It depends on the current finish and how fine of a finish you would like.
To get a miror finish you need to sand it out to a 600 grit or better and be sure that you have all of the scratches out, then you can get a polish kit from ace hardware or order one off of the net and run through the different steps of polishing compound. Most of the kits require some type of motor to run them. Good luck it is a tough process but with some work you can get good results. Another option is to find a plating shop, they usually have all of the equipment to polish to a high finish and may give you a good price just to polish your parts for you. |

thanks, i'll try the sandpaper first, then look for a polishing paste at home depot or someplace. i have polishing wheels for a dremel, but, that would take way too long.
thanks again.

cerama chrome
No polishing needed ever. I have used it on my pipe and silencer and it has not blued or rusted in the 2 yrs it has been on there.good for 1500 * I believe maybe more Just wash and wipe. I believe it was 125.00 for the pipe and 50.00 for the silencer |

what i did was use a paint stripping disc for my drill. it was one of those hard plastic disc about 1/2 inch thick. lightly went over the pipe with it. i got some nevrdull chrome polish to use after but it turned it a more cruddy brown than before. so i had to restrip it. then i steel wooled it and it looked alot better. but i'm going to look into the cerama chrome. i like that idea. thanks everyone.

If you don't have a fine enough finish before you polish the compound will stick in all of the scratches and make the finish look dirty. Polish will also stick before it starts to work because the metal is cold, as the metal heats up the polish will start to soften and it wil start to cut.
Chrome polish is too fine of a compound to start with, you need tripoli or another cutting compound. Here is a link to the types of polishes I am talking about. http://www.sfjssantafe.com/itemstable.p ... t=&at= |
