Hes going to have to extend his frame at least a foot if not further to accommodate a jackshaft. He doesnt have much room between the engine and rear sprocket to do it. If he went back to the smaller engine, he'd have plenty of room.

Nah he’s got room to move the engine up. He’d have to flip his spool over but it’d work, just a slightly higher center of gravity...but with what looks like the footprint of my 2005 expedition i don’t think moving his COG up 12” would cause much drama.

That is true. But its doubtful he'll put forth the effort to do that. Hes going for a 11 tooth sprocket on the engine which will give his gear ratio of 5.45:1, not including the transmission ratios. If he ever buys larger tires for it, he's going to want lower gearing. I mean what would the ideal gear ratio be for a buggy like that?

He really has a 60t sprocket on the back of that thing? the buggy is so huge it throws off the perspective of everything. VF1000R engine alone is a big engine and it looks like a harbor freight predator in that thing. If he could get 11/60 in it then, really, that should be a pretty decent ratio...it would put him pegging out just shy of 100mph if he's running a 25~26" tire (I'm not sure what size he's running...didn't see that video). 11/60 with 24" tires, I think, should be the target without having to make significant changes. But, as big as it is, I'd want 30" tires on it.

He said he has the largest sprocket on it he could get without having to order a custom made one. Unfortunately the eBay listing is no longer available. But I'm pretty sure it's at least a 60 tooth. Before he had a 17 tooth on the engine, but now has a 12. I thought he said he was going to buy a 11 tooth, but I might be wrong.

called it...dude should have stuck with that 600 and lots of gear reduction. The VF lump only looks nice on paper. Sounds incredible, though.
He might be able to rig up stuff from the V65. Not the same motor but shared a lot. Not worth the effort, though. He's going to spend a ton of time trying to sort that thing out. I bought my running 954 for $400 and if something happens to it I can get parts at the dealership. If he really wants the "V" torque he should look for a VFR800 or RC51.

He should have just gone with any engine that's either still in use, been used for a number of years, and/or has an excellent aftermarket support. Not some one off engine that was maybe around for a year, almost 40 years ago. I mean it looks like it has a ton of power now, but it could be so much better.
I hope he gets a different engine that'll work better and is easier to find parts for.

Of course he doesn't strap down the electrical box in and no idea how he snaps the tach needle. I still think he has more talent than carsandcameras and is on par with Red Beard's Garage. I'm waiting on RGB dunes buggy build, it doesn't look like they've made any progress on it lately though.

He's making a lot of beginner mistakes...which happens with your first full size build with a real engine. But he is going to keep breaking stuff with and about that engine.
I really like cars and cameras...but not because I really like their builds. I just like watching those dudes figure stuff out. I'd watch them do anything.
