Well I wish we had more to report but it was a rather short race but very long day for us.
![]() We were unable to finish do to our coil over shocks bottom rod ends heim broke, this allowed the bolt holding the shock to the arm to hammer out the bottom of the shock end and pull the threads and end clean off the shock! So we only were able to do only 2 of the 40 mile laps.... Braking down on the first lap and again breaking the not so good repair I did again on the second lap. ![]() We checked with everyone but no one had an old school Sway a Way bottom rod end for our style shock so we were done for the day. We did try fixing it but that did not work. We tried borrowing stuff but that did not work. Heck we even tried running the front shock on the back.. and yep you guessed it that did not work either. Well that is racing and you win some and loose some.. and sometimes you just brake. We just broke. Nothing we could do. Also I would like to say thanks to my wonderful wife while I was working on Kitt she was out on the race course gathering up all the springs, parts and pieces that flew off onto the track when we broke down out there. Plus for helping me get Kitt back together with only a screw driver and a pair of pliers! No easy task to put Kitts shock back together with only a pit bag in the car. We worked on her for several hours stuck on course. Pepper let me drink all the water we had in the car so I did not pass out. Thank you for always looking out and taking care of me. ![]() So anyways... by the time we came in hours later.. because we were stuck yet again on the dry lake bed only miles from the finish line when my weak repair failed us again... we finally called it a day. Pepper by then was dehydrated and kind of sick. I wish I could have done a better job on Kitt to make sure she did not brake but next race we will just go have fun and finish the season off with a great day of just racing and having fun... Well I do have some pics to show thanks to Mark & Martee! Super cool! :thumb: Ok the morning of the race. Yep that is right Pepper checks her cars oil and knows a lot about VW's actually. ![]() Getting her game plan ready and thoughts together for the race ahead. ![]() Quick shot of our ladies Pepper and Martee getting ready to head out. Pepper is of course the driver of Kitt and Martee is the co driver and driver for the Powder Puff of 1688. Very cool! ![]() Heading off to start the race. ![]() You can see the wheel base difference in this shot of Kitts new 103 inch wheel base instead of her old 95 inches. ![]() Here we are coming in for our first pits to try to fix the back shock? ![]() I have to say what an amazing job by everyone coming together to work on Kitt for us. These are just friends of ours and some don't even know one another except on race weekends and talk about working as a team and getting Kitt a part and back together as a team! Amazing! Thank you all so much! ![]() ![]() Here you can see why we are out racing our pit crew stand around and try to look important... ha ha. ![]() ![]() Well not much to say other than we really enjoyed everyone who came out and supported us.. not much we could do but you know we tried our best to finish. But a darn broken part stopped us. That is a bummer but we will be back you know it! Please join us for the 4th annual all female race for a cure for cancer! October 10th at Barstow and show your support for both Pepper and Martee! Thanks to everyone who helps and supports us.. especially in the pits! We can not say it enough, without all of you we would not be able to race Thank you and we look forward to seeing everyone in less than a month. ![]() Last edited by TutTech; 09-14-2009 at 04:39 PM. |

No I am afraid it looks like she lost her points lead and will no longer be the points champ.
The team we have been neck and neck with is now ahead of us.. I will get a picture of their car so you can see what we have been fighting against.. it is a mean car and for Pepper to hold them off and stay a head of them for over 6 months was amazing in it self.. Let me find a pic.. Here ![]() Honda powered a arm buggy. Super nice car and Pepper was holding them off until this race... dang only 1 race to go.. maybe.. if they brake she can place well and get the lead back.. she is about 10 points behind is my guess so that is tough to get in only one race. But it is racing so you never know. Well she is in second place for now and lets hope she can hold onto that and maybe make a move for taking back the points on the last race. We also have another car super close to her only like 10 points behind moving up trying to take her 2nd spot away.. so man the last race is going to be a nervous wreck for me. Sheesh... Pepper can go from 1st to 3rd by the end.. dang... or hang onto second or even move back into first.. it is really that close.. ![]() Thanks for the kind words and the broken shocks rod end was a whopping 69 bucks to buy. Dang.. a 69 dollar part cost us the race... sheesh. Well like we all agree that is racing. Thanks for the kind words and remember to come out and watch Pepper race to raise money at the next race.. Oct. 10th.. it is not for points but to raise money to fight breast cancer. The race is an all female race only. 200 race vehicles raced last year! Most vehicles hold 2 females plus all the woman cheering and supporting all the racers.. so there was about 1,000 woman! Desert woman who love to do this kind of stuff.. That is what I call a great time! Ha ha. It realy is a great time please come join us and watch the race. Thanks again. ![]() ![]() Last edited by TutTech; 09-15-2009 at 04:01 PM. |

You guys should be proud. Isn't the blue car really a Class 10? It's got to have at least double the HP you have and a little more travel. KITT has done extremely well for years, which says alot for her builder and drivers!!!

Thanks everyone.. ya the blue car is seriously a 10 car and they are going to race in 10 next year they said after the win in class 13. But yep probably close to twice the power and a lot of suspension.. especially on the front.. super fast and what a nice car.. man I love it.
The owners and sons are super nice.. heck they ran out of fuel on the last lap of the 500 we called our pits because they could not reach anyone ran their battery dead trying to start their car so we called they got fuel and actually caught us, passed us and won.. What are you going to do.. Heck at least we have good sportsmanship right? But they have never forgot it and have been totally cool.. Super nice guys and you make friends with just about everyone at MORE it is just a great place to race.I wish them the best and at the same time I wish my wife the best and may the luckiest person win. Ha ha. ![]() Our car has done good and our new car is in the works.. it is just slow going with everything being so slow right now.. dang. I wish I could speed it up. I hope we have the new car ready next year but if not I know it will be done soon. Thanks again everyone and we will see what happens Dec. 5th! ![]() |

Man, sorry to hear that the race went badly for you guys. But like you said, "That's racing." - those simple parts take you out on occasion and it sucks. Then again, I'd almost rather have a 10 dollar part fail over a 1000 dollar part. Cheaper to fix and usually easier!
