Nope, you're wrong about that. You're talking about rake - where the suspension is angled upward in front. While it may look like it would give you more ground clearance at full compression, and nose low, the amount that you gain is negligible. It's not something to worry about. Take a look at my avatar - that's the direct result of a nose low landing. Wouldn't have mattered one bit if I'd had more or less rake.

There have been a few debates about the pros and cons of rake and I'll stick with my opinion that it's not necessary. The Gen IV cars have very, very little, most desert vehicles don't have much.

Why do you want trailing arms in the rear on a Lite sized vehicle?

Bob (Rorty) understands chassis dynamics and does one hell of a great design.

Thanks for the advice, I have been looking at photo of minis from Yellowdogracing, snowmobiles,ATVs, and a lot of sand rails, the old VWs fronts swing back and so on, most of them seem to have some form or rake, small but there.
Now before I say too much I'm in no way a engineer of any kind.
But from a layman's standpoint the direction of force, to me, looks like it would be to your advantage to absorb energy more parallel and less perpendicular to the direction the suspension is designed to move.
I was just thinking that he (rorty)might of kept it simple for guys like me to built buggies. Thinking he would be on the phone all day trying to explain things to guys like me.

And trailing arms is what I would want I miss spoke there. My terminology isn't up to speed yet.

Thanks
Jason

I have two cars, one with 6* of rake and A-arms at both ends and a Rorty R82 with no rake and semi trailing arms in back. Funny that I have about as many hours in each car and only one trip on the Rorty. Hmmmm.

Anyway, the first car is totally bitchin when it ain't busted. It jumps well and lands well and is completely different than the Rorty.

The R82 is a gas to drive. It's short and square dimensionally and is so stout you would not believe it. I'm working in it now by installing MORE POWER so I can have even more fun!

Just bought plans for the R11 Stiletto so I'm going to build a single seater. That is a cross between the R16 Shotgun and something else with A-arms in back It's going to be the best yet.

Each of them work well. I'm always going to have one car that runs - after one of them actually is running.

With small tires, I want rake. With large tires, it does not matter as much.

Next who has a front spindle w/disc brake and trailing arm setup /carrier that has race quality, that I could in corp into my design. Agian I may opt to build myself but want to buy as much stuff I can...Still aiming at a GEN IV style but just a little longer in length, I'm +6'.
This rig is going to be for the local MX track and maybe the beach...for fun but the local guys are looking for a new motor sport thats affordable.
What are the wheel base rules for the stadium lites finding this info is somewhat tuff.

thanks for all your help guys

Where down south exactly are you going to run the stadium lite? Ive been run off Jodphur MX track here in Anchortown and pretty much stay out at Jim's creek where it's big enough to open up the FL800. With the Snowmachine (alaska term) Motor you want to run you'll be choked off by water just like my Pilot is. Lately I've been thinking of a 4x4 Motorcycle driven small buggy would suite Alaska better, something without a CVT to get wet.
