Wait until you move or retire. California will hunt you down through the IRS and claim you still owe them State income tax on money that you earned and saved when you lived there like stock options, pension etc. And the courts are supporting them. I just had to write a check for several thousand dollars to California for tax year 2006. Thing is I only lived in the state 3 years of my working life and moved out of the state 9 years ago. I haven't been back since. Being forced to pay income tax to a state you haven't lived in or visited in almost a decade sucks! And then the politicians just turn around and waste the money.
