No need to apologize, I am right there with you. Even though WE ALL get sucked in at times, at least some stop and take the time to think about it. That is a step in the right direction. Now if we can eliminate, or at least minimize our largest import (i.e. oil) we are really movin'. And we are back to waiting on congress to open up the gulf and other offshore areas to drilling. That and offer more subsidies to "outside the box" alternative energy to encourage energy independence. My money is on solar, see Germany's govt program for promoting solar power. It is a bit extreme but a similar program could possibly work to lessen our dependence on foreign (Read:Arab/Venezuelan) oil.

They may have been unwanted but they broke no laws in coming here.BTW the American Indians were not the first people here.We are however still paying for what we took from the American Indians ,allow them to have sovereign nations within our borders and have a casino on every corner. I see your point in that the natives didn't have a WRITTEN law against what many of our ancestors participated in, but I would like to think they may have had an unwritten law against (slightly unintentional)mass genocide. Or at least a healthy respect for their neighbors.

I also like the train of thought that lead you to seeing my right and every other American's to run a casino on their property. I think I want a fireworks stand too. That would be sweet.

I think we agree pretty much on this subject.Let me take the immigrant part a little further though.MOST of the immigrants of the last 100 or so years came here legally-through Ellis Island. It's only in the last 10-20 years that we have allowed widespread illegal immigration and acted like we couldn't control it.THAT is what pisses me off.

Good point Fabr, my great-grandfather came here legally just before WWI. I consider myself lucky he was able to make that choice.

Spec, thanks for the heads up. I will be staying in Utah for hunting season this year(deer, elk, pronghorn). Sounds like a free for all that I want no part of. My pops lived in Morehead, MN and I didn't get up there to visit more than once. He was a huge fan of the pheasant hunting and his experience wasn't all that far from what you described.

I have ancestors that came through Ellis Island. At that time though, there was no welfare, food stamps, etc. They worked to get what they needed and paid taxes on their wages.

There are people who come here legally still, those who will not be leaches on our country.
