My buddy used to have a Fiero that got 45 MPG at 80 MPH. Sure it lacked a place to put a tire when you got a flat (The tires on the car do not fit under the hood where the mini spare was kept.) But it was fun to drive and cheap.

I personally think Hybrids are some-what the wrong way to go. The batteries are $$ and add a lot of weight. How much better could they do simply with a very light car with a smaller gas or diesel motor. Plus disposal of the batteries and what not in pollutants in making the things.

I would REALLY like to see some good engineers make a "train car" A locomotive is the most efficent way to move A LOT of weight. I would like to see what kind of MPG they could get with the same setup only MUCH smaller designed to move a 1600 (or less) pound car instead of the many many tons a train can/does. Bill

Personally, I think ethanol is the way to go. Even Henry Ford said ethanol was the fuel of the future.

But the trick with any new fuel/power is implamenting the concept without incredible expense to the public. That is the problems I am having with hybrid, electric, or even ethanol vehicles right now because I can't afford one. I don't have 25-45K to drop into a vehicle.

The problem with ethanol is it's too exspensive to produce, atleast from corn it is. Brazils got the right idea, cane sugar produces the most ethanol and is much cheaper to produce than corn based ethanol. Brazil is close to being self sustaining with the amount of ethanol it produces, i believe it accounted for 40% of the fuel consumption last year.

BUUUT there tearing down record numbers of acres of rainforest to accomplish this. Anyway you slice it i don't see and real viable alternative fuel for the future. I like Hydrogen but it's still way to exspensive to be viable.

The most affordable fuel to put in your ride is petroleum. It is abundant right here in the US and the only thing between us and it is congress.

Oil prices would begin falling dramatically if we could turn a spigot and increase supply in a dramatic way. Nature of the business though is that there aren't enough wells to "make" more oil. That's the simple problem congress wants to fix by punishing oil companies for making 10% profit.

Did you read yet that Exxon/Mobil is leaving the branded gasoline business here in the US? That's because it is not making a good return on investment for company owned and operated branded stations. It makes the 10% profit between the oil well (or crude oil purchase) and what comes out of the refinery. The gas station side consumes profit.

Just the other day the democrat candidate implied that the problem with oil prices is that they rose too quickly. That means he supports higher prices! He supports higher prices by inflicting a new tax on oil companies and they will pass it along to you.

The last Windfall Profit tax resulted in a crude producing reduction in this country of nearly 5 Million barrels per day thus increasing reliance on foriegn oil.

The republican candidate is unwilling to drill in ANWR and says equally ignorant things about petroleum.

These politicians are so effd up in their thinking. Someday there will be a replacement energy to move us around. What we are doing now is suicidal.

Congress and the tree huggers need to get the heads out of the a$$e$. Mexico can drill 90 miles outside of Florida but we can't, real fricken nice. Canada also has some nice reserves right around Alaska that there going to start drilling for. So we get to pay a premium for oil we can drill ourselves. Stupid politicians

100% agree.. Congress's solutiuon to the energy crisis is to mandate CFL lightbulbs. At least one had the balls to say something about. Love this video, gets better right up to the end.

What do you think the carbon tax is all about? Now we will trade pollution on the open market like any other resource. LOL Nothing but money grubbing bastages, both sides IMHO.
