If the answer is no (which we all know it is), then your arguing with me for no reason, because you agree with me that's is not a good idea. So what the hell is the problem here, you just feel like making an ass outta yourself or what?...

No i would not, Because I can not tig weld... Look at that car tho, it is half the size of yours. and 1/2 the weight, has tons of triangulation...What else can you pick apart?

Fabber, why would you go 200mph + between concrete walls with .058 tubing, but not go off roading?

Tig welding or not you would never use .060 for the roll cage.

The car is not half the weight of mine, my base mode is 1150 pounds dry, Most of the other busa rail manufacturers are under 1000 pounds, I don't know of any of them using less than .095 wall..

And the tons of tringulation is on the botom half of the rail, not the roof.

I said my biggest concern is the roof, and it is. Rebuilding the roof outta thicker material would be the smartest thing he could do for that rail. I build my entire rail outta .120 tubing, if I ever drop to thinner material, I will always use .120 for the roof and suspension components. The suspension is personal preference, but your adding what, 5 pounds to the rail by making the roof outta .120 tubing to make it a lot safer.

You honestly think i'm outta line in thinking the roof at the dead least should be built outta thicker material, would you bet his life on keeping it the way it is, would you bet yours?

I'm not trying to sound like a know it all, I think the roof is unsafe and he could get hurt if he flips it, is it so bad that I mentioned it? I didn't go on a campaign for him to change it, I stated my opinion and dropped it. I'm only still talking about it because you have decided that I should not have made the comment at all, and don't know what i'm talking about. I'm sure everyone else in here thinks .060 is unsafe for a complete roll cage, so why am I getting the 3rd. degree because i'm the one that mentioned it when you know i'm right in at least pointing it out....

He said most is .058, so 'll venture to say it is both better braced, and bigger than 1.25" diameter tubing for the main roll cage

Simple. The dragster travels what in it's lifetime? 500 miles MAX? On a smooth paved track no less. Very little stresses put on the chassis compared to an offroad car regardless of size. On the other hand the offroad car will see many hard hits and jumps and (hopefully) many many miles of very stressful use. The .058 is fine for the once in a dragcars lifetime crash at protecting the driver. The offroad car will see many nearly the same impacts in it's lifetime. Again ,the intended usage will dictate what's appropriate to use. The .058 for a drag car will save your life.I know! Sorry for pic quality. It's a pic of a 22 year old pic.

Rules of the time called for 1 5/8 OD x .095 mild. The car was from 1 5/8 x .095 4130.Mild would have held up also but I was able to save the 4130 chassis and return it to racing the next year.My RED is from 1 5/8 x .058 exclusively in the cockpit area as rules called for when built. It will not pass NHRA tech now.

Thinner wall tubing is stronger than thicker wall tubing if it is a bigger diameter. The 1-5/8" at .058 is quite a bit stronger than the 1.25" tubing that is .060.

Wonder why nobody ever joins the board?

“Hey old Fart, welcome to the board – your cars a POS, Death trap, but, glad to have you here buddy!”

Just a thought, maybe split the thread?
