Default New to these vehicles

Well im new to all this stuff, and started a thread yesterday in the welcome mat talking about the project i want to do. Ill just summarize it here incase you havent read it.

Basically i have a 1996 Yamaha Blaster roller sitting outback at my brothers just rusting away. He wants to scrap it, i want to turn it into a mini buggy thingy. It doesnt have a motor, wheels, working breaks, and some other stuff. All of the suspension and steering is there, so i think it would work good for this. What i want to do is build a frame, and then mount or weld the Blaster onto it. I started thinking about it this spring, and spent a couple days making crappy drawings and getting measurements. What id like to do is get a old motorcycle engine to use, nothing to fancy or to powerful. But before we make a single cut or I can spend any money i have to have a plan. Today i put some crude measurements for the floor plane onto a piece of graph paper, but i havent gotten the lengths of the angles yet. Here is a picture of what i have so far for my plan.

I just made guesses on how much room i need for the motor, seat, and my legs. Keep in mind i will be putting the blaster frame on the end of this frame for the suspension and all. Tell me if my measurements are close to what id want for a nice size buggy, or if its off. Each box is equal to 3 inches wide and 3 inches long. Im open to any suggestions or advice, because im just starting to learn this stuff.

I would say 9" for your feet is to narrow, maybe go to 14". 18" is to short for the engine area, depends on what you are going to use for a engine but it's better to have more room then not enough, I would use 28-30".

I will probably make it wider. The reason i have it at 9 inches now is because thats how wide the front of the blaster frame is. And i figured the area for the motor would be to small. I have no idea what motor im going to use, and not really even sure what size a motor would be. One thing im worried about is the wheelbase. With a swingarm rear suspension mounted onto the rear of the frame that adds length, and with the front suspension on the blaster being 21 inches long it adds up quick. When i made my measurements the first time i believe my wheelbase was around 120 inches, because i was adding like 60 inches in the middle.

Thumbs up Re: New to these vehicles

I am building a similar buggy just like yours, I am even using a blaster rolling chassis I talked a guy out of. I cut the front end off of the blaster and welded it onto my frame, then I welded on some brackets to attach the swingarm to it, not quite done yet but its going to be for my kids. If I was to do it over I would change the front end. Instead of using the frame off of the blaster I would take the suspension off and attach it to the outside of my frame that I built. That would make it over 20inches wider in the front. but here is some pics, I hope yours is moving forward.
