You could use a torch but that might take more than you want.

Wire wheel would work but for doing a small area for do a weld repair I would use a die grinder with a scotch-brite disc. Die grinder gives you a little better control and keeps you from stripping more than you want IMO. Don't forget to do a bigger area than you need or the PC will bubble if it gets too hot and you'll be stripping it off too.

Also, you've got to think about heat affected zones when torching to remove powdercoat, especially with 4130.

One tip I read online and that we used was to use aerosol gasket remover to bubble the PC(powdercoat). While it is still soft, it can be removed easily with a wire brush or a scraper of some sort. We did find that you can't just leave it alone though. If the remover sits on the PC for a long time, eventually it all evaporates away and the PC will re-adhere to the tubes. Once this happens, you have to re-spray and try again.

ok well i'm just gonna paint the frame with soem kind of paint. Next questions is what is the most durable spray on paint?? Chances are i'm gonna modify the frame in the future anyways. I do have a paint gun and stuff.. Going flat black I think.

Talk to El Toro. He's a paint guru.

Yoshi knows a little about paint too. Ask him!

None it's spray paint, if it's temporary just buy whats cheap, if it's permanent buy whats cheap ....basically if your gonna rattle can , use whats cheap cause 80% will end up on the ground, and along those lines do it somewhere you dont care about the ground cause most of your money will end up on the floor...if it were me I would powdercoat but I am partial since I own a P/C shop....to be honest for the money you will spend on paint you would be money ahead to P/C your frame but again I am partial....its just far more duarable and user friendly, but again I am partial.....ulltimately you have to decide...do i wanna have to touch up rust spots every time i use the car or do i want a bright color that i dont have to mess with...ntil i want a different color....i come from a paint backgoround and would never use any kinda paint in the sand or dirt ....it will just come right off.... at least with powder it will last through some abuse....by no means is it impervious, but for the use its about the best thing you can buy....and suprisingly affordable...

Line x go look at your truck after one year its not black anymore its gray, and plus its hard as hell to get off if you change your mind....

I aint partial to either but I can rattle can a complete frame and arms for under ten bucks.

I agree that powder coat IS a LOT tougher.

Still aint nothing to touch up a paint job. It the paint is getting taken off daily repait it and make some aluminum skid guards or something.

Once you KNOW its done and no more will likely be added and you have had it out a few times to "stress test" the frame while driving it and it seems the design proves itself then I might consider a nice color PC. But never before that point. But thats just me.

I've just finished painting my buggy with KBS RustSeal. It's similar to POR-15 but pretty much better in every way (apparently, I've never used POR-15 to compare the two)

Stop Rust - Preferred 4 to 1 over POR-15 - Gas Tank Sealer - KBS Coatings - RustSeal in Colors

I brushed it on and ALL the brush marks disappeared. Very satisfied customer. Also have great customer support. Highly recommended!

That would be on the low side. More like 750.
