I'm working on my frontend design. I plan to build double a-arm, spindles, uprights, hubs you name it (except bearings and heims[smilie=ecstatic.gi:). I'm learning about each aspect of the system (camber, caster, KPI, scrub, ..... ) but putting it all together is far more complicated than just drawings, especially 2D cad. I will prevail through trial and error BUT will take all suggestions. I have a couple ?'s 1) Can you build your caster into your a-arms by just angling them up in the front as I have seen on some of the designs? 2) Where in the suspension travel would the ride height be? I have an example of my initial design. Am I on the right track? By my calculations there is negitve camber at both top and bottom of travel. Is this correct? Any help would be appriciated.

I have the great fortune to work for a large corporation and we have a engineering dept. I work in IT and was able to score a copy of SolidWorks 2009 to use in a "LAB/Testing" environment.

Now I just started and dont really know anyone here, also i learn better on my own anyway...

I want to use SolidWorks to design a frame,etc.... Anyone got any pointers? I've played with it for a few hours and there is a huge learning curve there. HAHA.

would i be better off with AutoCad or some other program?

I'm getting ready to do some design work and I'm considering what the best way to model a tube chassis is. I could model each tube as a separate part and then put them all together in an assembly. Or I was thinking I could draw the whole frame as one part and then do different drafting views of each "plane" in order to get accurate prints. I think I'd like an individual file for each tube to make it easier to keep track of everything but I don't know if that'll cause headaches some other way. What do you guys think? I'm using UG NX5 but have access to SolidWorks also.
