Brought home two Ecotecs for the 10Dez. I'll be running Class 3000 in BITD now. No more Honda VTEC!
Anyone want a couple of B16 engines?

Email me timmy2424@yahoo.com with a price. I run that motor in my superbuggy but with out the v-tech or fuel injection. Do you have a header for those motors? Are they stock or do they have any work done to them? Tim

A little info:Garrett Doyle Performance (661-965-9109) in Palmdale,Ca. has been running the Honda F20c for the last five years in a Pro-4 stockcar on the west coast touring circuit and had been bullet proof.HP at rear wheels:230.Runs all day at 9000+RPMs with a 500cfm 2 barrel. No injection allowed.Have developed both intake and exhaust systems and custom crank trigger ignition system, dry sump oil system. We were into Ford motors until we made the change.Have been looking at the ecotech but just can't get the same power out of them.

I talked to the guys at Turnkey yesterday - whew... I'll be able to get my engine(s) tech'd in the car once it's all set and ready to go race. They said that they have to have access to the spark plugs so they can get in the cylinders and check the conditions of the top end.
Dodged what could be a large bullet there, I believe. They also mentioned that I need to run the Delphi ECU. ATVR's supposed to supply me w/that stuff. We'll see.

Kfab I have a question for you. According to class 2 and 4 rules: Stock GM Ecotec 2.2-liter engine. Engine must remain stock as delivered by the manufacture. Engine has to be sealed by SCORE prier to being installed into vehicle. Must use stock Delphi MEFI ECU.
GM lists the 2.2 @ 145-149hp depending on what it came out of GM Media Online: English (click on "SS") but Turnkey has theirs listed as 170hp. Any idea why? Are you going to be at a disadvantage from the start? It says stock ECU, but doesn't mention tuning. This will account for 20-25hp if done correctly with no other changes........ |

SCORE says it has to be tagged - does BITD? (yea, they do). I'll not be running in SCORE, as I don't enjoy going south of the border anymore and I'm not about to take my truck across for any reason.
There are more than enough sanctioning bodies for desert racing in the US. (BITD, MORE, SNORE, Whiplash to name a few of the larger ones) Regardless, Turnkey said that they'd tech the engine(s) and sticker (seal) them for me. I would imagine that would be an across the board I have no clue on the tuning aspect of the engine. Right now all I know about it is that I have two of them sitting on a carrier, they're bone stock and that ATVR's been putting them in Tazcars with great success over the three years or so. Turnkey is using a Delphi setup, so is ATVR. I am under the belief that both (I know ATVR is) are running a modded mapping program. As far as the hp goes, it's such a toss up. I would imagine that with enough searching, you can find 2.2's listed from 135 to 185 hp in stock form. Everyone has their own numbers. Different dynos will give different numbers. I would tend to believe that GM's rating is probably 5 to 10 lower than it actually is and that Turnkey is 5 to 10 more than it actually is. As far as a disadvantage? Yea, maybe? Maybe not. I go out west and race because I enjoy the challenge of the event. If/when I manage to finish a race, well, that's winning to me already. Anytime I can drive the car into the back of the truck after a race is considered a great weekend. If I actually manage to place, well then that's just bonus on top of the fun. I'm very green w/the 10Dez - the issues have been frustrating and heart breaking - and I'm working on getting rid of them - but w/each race and/or test session I discover a new weak link. In retrospect, it took me about three years to get my original Deztaz up to "race car" status, so considering that I'm in Ohio and have no ability to test in real world situations and such, I guess I'm not too terribly far off of where I should be. New car (ha, it was started Aug of '06!), no seat time, major league race courses - it can all add up quickly and kick your ass - Mine's finally getting over the bruises! ![]()
