I think you are looking for a carrier assy. Right? They are fairly simple, I think Gear-One makes a shaft pretty cheap and then you just get bearings that fit either end and a tube the whole thing rides in and add CV cups on either end and weld on a mount for the sprocket and you are there! Also here is a little DWG from someone else....

The gear one way works, but is in no way simple.... Simple is a vw diff welded shut and sprocket bolted were the ring gear goes, even with the gear one setup, you will have 4-500 bux in it...the shaft is 110, the one i had the splines were so fricken tight it took a 20 ton press to on and off the flanges...IMO it is not the way to do it...

Yeah the Yosh piece is BITCHEN! Just a bit more than I thought he would want to spend! You could also do pillow block bearings as well, thats what I plan on doing at first, or I might try the ARROWHEAD approach as well.

Welcome to the site. But I will have to say. Yah 70 people looked at your post. I am betting most of them wondered. Only a few posts and hes asking about a spool? Didn't he use the search feature? I know I did. Twice actually. When I came to this site I tried to read all the back pages just for info from them. Later as I searched it kept taking me back to pages I had read and I reread them and learned more.
There is a lot of info on this site in many past posts. You sometimes gotta be a little creative with the searches but many many times they will answer all your issues. There are likley 20 to 30 posts showing spools and ways to do them. Likely more. With proper searching of this sites archives there is not really one aspect of a buggy you could not properly and safely (and at a reasonable cost) build. No matter what engine or drivetrain or suspension type you prefer. From bracing the frame to geometry to proper seatbelt mounting. Its in there. Bill
