Default Spool

What parts are needed to build one and where do you get them?

First off how much power are you planning on it dealing with?

What do you want it to cost? What do you think it will cost?

The easiest and cheapest thing is to get a VW diff out of a IRS car tranny and remove the ring gear and bolt a sprocket to it. The bearing surfaces are 41mm (and the only bearing that seems to fit it is the VW side roller bearing and its not sealed) so they can be turned down to 40mm and there is a bearing that fits (If you want just ask and I will get you the bearing part number.) Or you can go with a bigger bearing and machine a collar that fits the diff and the bigger bearing.

The diff is not to heavy once the ring gears off it. You can leave it open if you like cutting brakes (some call them fiddle brakes) and just weld covers on the six little holes around the diff and put a grease zerk on one. Hit it with grease before a big ride and it will be happy.

Or you can weld it up if you like the posi action. Common cv flanges fit it and you go from there.

Desert karts sells a spool setup.

Yoshi has one to. (Sinister Sand sports) He can set you up with CV or U-joints.

Many ways to put a spool together. From nice to sloppy. You can use flanges on a short axle made by Gear one (just for example). I can show a pic if you ask. Do you know the width you are wanting?

well i dont know which way to go im playing with motors right now. I have a motor out of a 80 GS 1100 suzuki shaft drivin and a rear end out of a triumph and it works real well. But im just trying to decide if there would be any advantage to going to a chain drivin setup.
